  • Gold Smuggling Case: DRI Issues ₹102.55 Crore Fine Notice to Actress Ranya Rao

    Bengaluru, September 2, 2025: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has issued a notice to Kannada actress Ranya Rao, currently in custody for her alleged involvement in a gold smuggling case, to pay a fine of ₹102.55 crore. The notice, accompanied by approximately 2,500 pages of documents, was served in connection with the smuggling of 127.3 kg of gold, as confirmed by DRI investigations.

    Additionally, three other accused in the case—Tarun Kondaraju, Sahil Sakaria Jain, and Bharat Kumar Jain—have been directed to pay fines exceeding ₹50 crore each, according to DRI sources. The notices were served to the four accused, who are lodged in Bengaluru Central Jail, on September 2, 2025.

    The case traces back to March 3, 2025, when Ranya Rao was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru for illegally smuggling gold. DRI officials seized 14.8 kg of gold from her possession upon her arrival from Dubai. Further investigation revealed that Ranya had made four trips to Dubai within a span of 15 days, smuggling gold each time. The total quantity of smuggled gold is estimated at 127.3 kg, with significant financial implications.

    The DRI’s probe also uncovered connections to a larger smuggling network, leading to the seizure of assets worth ₹37 crore by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The agency has warned that failure to pay the fines could result in the attachment of the accused’s properties.

    In a related development, the Karnataka High Court heard a petition under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act, 1974 (COFEPOSA), which has been adjourned to September 11, 2025, for further proceedings.

  • Renuka Swamy Murder Case: Bail Plea of Prime Accused Pavithra Gowda Rejected Again by Sessions Court

    Bengaluru, September 2, 2025: In a significant development in the high-profile Renuka Swamy murder case, the 57th Sessions Court in Bengaluru on Tuesday rejected the bail application of prime accused (A1) Pavithra Gowda, who is currently in judicial custody. Pavithra Gowda, a close associate of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, had filed the plea seeking relief, but the court dismissed it after considering arguments from both sides.

    The case stems from the brutal murder of Renuka Swamy, a resident of Chitradurga, who was allegedly abducted, tortured, and killed for sending obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda. According to police investigations, Renuka Swamy was kidnapped from Chitradurga, brought to Bengaluru, and subjected to extreme violence in a shed in Pattanagere. The assault, reportedly orchestrated by Darshan and his associates, led to his death, with his body later discovered in a stormwater drain. Pavithra Gowda is named as the primary accused for allegedly instigating the crime.

    Pavithra Gowda, who had recently been re-arrested following the Supreme Court’s cancellation of bail granted by the Karnataka High Court, approached the sessions court for bail. Her lawyer, Balan, argued that while not challenging a prior Supreme Court order, there were technical flaws in the chargesheet. He contended that the chargesheet was filed under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) instead of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), rendering it legally invalid. On this basis, he urged the court to grant bail to Pavithra Gowda.

  • Bengaluru: Two More Arrested from Udupi in Actress Ramya Obscene Comment Case, Total Reaches Nine

    Bengaluru, August 19, 2025: The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested two additional suspects, identified as Sujan and Adarsh from Udupi, in a case involving obscene comments and messages sent to actress and former MP Ramya (Divya Spandana). This brings the total number of arrests in the case to nine. Previously, on August 4, 2025, two others, Bhuvan Gowda and Rajesh, were apprehended, and seven others were arrested from various locations, including Kolar, Chikkamagaluru, and Bengaluru.

    The accused are reportedly fans of actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is implicated in the Renuka Swamy murder case. The harassment stemmed from a social media post by Ramya advocating justice for Renuka Swamy’s family, which provoked outrage among Darshan’s supporters. In response, several individuals sent abusive and obscene messages to Ramya on platforms like Instagram.

    On July 28, 2025, Ramya personally lodged a complaint with Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh and the Cyber Crime Police, citing harassment from over 40 social media accounts. The case was transferred to the CCB, which formed six teams to track down the perpetrators. The accused face charges under the Information Technology Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including criminal intimidation, attempt to breach peace, sexual harassment, and insulting a woman’s modesty.

    ಈ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ಕುರಿತು ವಿವಿಧ ಠಾಣೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿರುವ ಇನ್ನೂ ಕೆಲ ಎಫ್‌ಐಆರ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ED ಕಲೆಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿದೆ. ತನಿಖೆ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ಈ ಆ್ಯಪ್‌ಗಳು ಅಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ ಮೊತ್ತವನ್ನು ಕಲೆ ಹಾಕಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಇಡಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ವರದಿಗಳು ಹೇಳಿವೆ.

    ಉಡುಪಿ: ಘೋಷನ್ ಇವೆಂಟ್ಸ್ ಮೀಡಿಯಾ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಿಯಾ ಫ್ಯಾಶನ್ ದುಬೈ ಇದರ ಆಶ್ರಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತುಂಬೆ ಮೆಡಿ ಸಿಟಿ ಅಜ್ಮನ್ ಇದರ ಸಹಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ “ಮಿಸ್ ಆ್ಯಂಡ್ ಮಿಸಸ್ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ದಿವಾ ಮಿಡಲ್ ಈಸ್ಟ್- 2025” ಅಂತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯನ್ನು ನವೆಂಬರ್ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದುಬೈನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯ ನೋಂದಣಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಆರಂಭಗೊಂಡಿದೆ.

    ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ ಅಂತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ನೋಂದಣಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಅಂತ್ಯಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿದೆ. ಆ ಬಳಿಕ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಿಷನ್ ನಡೆಯಲಿದ್ದು, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗುವ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಗಳು ನವೆಂಬರ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ದುಬೈನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಲಿರುವ ಫೈನಲ್ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಫೈನಲ್ ಗೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗುವ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಗಳಿಗೆ ವಿಸಾ, ವಿಮಾನ ಟಿಕೆಟ್, ಮೂರು ದಿನದ ವಾಸ್ತವ್ಯವನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ಊಟ, ಪ್ರಯಾಣ, ಫೋಟೋ ಶೂಟ್, ರ‌್ಯಾಂಪ್ ವಾಕ್ ತರಬೇತಿ, ಮೇಕಪ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾಸ್ಟ್ಯೂಮ್ ಅನ್ನು ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಆಯೋಜಕರು ಒದಗಿಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

  • Alia Bhatt’s ex assistant arrested for cheating her of Rs 77 lakh

    Bengaluru, July 9, 2025: Alia Bhatt’s former personal assistant has been arrested for cheating the actor of Rs 77 lakh. Vedika Prakash Shetty, 32, is accused of committing irregularities worth Rs 76.9 lakh in Ms Bhatt’s production company, Eternal Sunshine Productions Private Limited, and her personal accounts.

    This fraud, police have said, was committed between May 2022 and August 2024. The matter came to light after Alia Bhatt’s mother, actor-director Soni Razdan, filed a complaint with Juhu police on January 23. Thereafter, a case was registered under sections relating to criminal breach of trust and cheating and police started looking for Vedika Shetty.

    According to police sources, Vedika Shetty worked as Ms Bhatt’s personal assistant from 2021 to 2024. During this time, she handled the actor’s financial documents and payments and planned her schedule.

    The investigation has revealed that Vedika Shetty allegedly prepared fake bills, got Ms Bhatt to sign them and siphoned off the money, police sources have said. She told the actor that the expenses were for her travel, meetings and other related arrangements.

    Vedika Shetty, the probe has found, used professional tools to make these fake bills look authentic. After Ms Bhatt signed them, the amounts were transferred to the account of her friend, who would then route the money back to Vedika Shetty.

    After Ms Razdan filed a police complaint, Vedika Shetty was on the run and kept changing her location. She was tracked down to Rajasthan, then to Karnataka, then to Pune and then to Bengaluru. Eventually, Juhu police caught up with her in Bengaluru and arrested her. She was then brought to Mumbai on a transit demand.
