Gangolli, September 1, 2025: Students from Stella Maris English Medium School, Gangolli, excelled in the under-14 boys’ throwball tournament held at the Kundapura taluk level on August 30, 2025. Organized under the aegis of the Karnataka Government, Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Department of School Education, Deputy Director’s Office, Udupi District, and Block Education Officer’s Office, Udupi, the event saw the school’s team clinch first place, qualifying for the district-level competition. This victory has brought pride to the school, enhancing its reputation in sports.
The school’s management committee, Principal Sister Vijaya Crasta, teaching and non-teaching staff, and parents congratulated the students for their outstanding performance.
Gangolli, September 1, 2025 – The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) Byndoor Constituency Committee conducted a leaders’ meeting in Gangolli, themed “Contribution for Change.”
The meeting was presided over by constituency committee president Siddique Gangolli. Udupi District Vice President Haneef Mulur delivered the introductory address, while State General Secretary Majeed Thumbe engaged in consultations with party leaders. Gangolli, August 31, 2025: The Social Sports and Charitable Association (SSC) organized a Felicitation Ceremony and Motivational Program on Sunday evening at Madrasa Islahul Muslimeen Hall, Gangolli. The program commenced at 5:00 p.m. with a Qirat by Madha, followed by a Naat rendered by Nuha.
The event was presided over by Maulana Hajira, President of the SSC Women’s Wing, and attended by members of the Women’s Wing office bearers and members.

The highlight of the evening was the felicitation of Aysha Shaheeba, a Gangolli native and one of eight students from the MBA Department at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru who cleared the UGC-NET (Ph.D.-Only category) — was honored for bringing pride to the college and the Gangolli community.
Daughter of Mohammed Saleem and Noorunnisa, Aysha completed her schooling at Touheed English Medium School and earned a B.Com in Accounting & Finance from Bhandarkars’ Arts & Science College, Kundapur. She currently completed her MBA in Finance at Sahyadri College and has published a research paper titled “Integrating E-Learning to Enhance Holistic Education in the 21st Century” in the Journal of IMIS (ProQuest indexed).
In her address, Aysha thanked her family and SSC for the recognition, described her study journey, and urged students to balance college studies with Islamic studies without compromising on either.

Gangolli, August 31, 2025: Prajwal Pai, a student of Saraswati Vidyalaya Pre-University College, Gangolli, has earned a spot in the state-level shuttle badminton competition. He secured this achievement through an impressive performance at the Udupi district-level inter-college boys’ and girls’ shuttle badminton tournament, jointly organized by the Department of School Education (Pre-University), Udupi district, and Bhandarkars’ Pre-University College, Kundapura. The event showcased young talent from across the district, with Prajwal standing out for his skill and determination.
Gangolli, August 29, 2025 – In response to a request from the Udupi District Police Superintendent (Letter No. 175(11-1)/SB/General/Ganesh.BB/UG/2025, dated August 28, 2025), District Collector and Magistrate Swarupa T.K. has issued an order under the Karnataka Excise Act, 1965, Section 21, and Karnataka Excise (Sale of Indian and Foreign Liquors) Rules, 1968, Rule 3, prohibiting liquor sales in Gangolli, Gujjadi, Trasi, and Hosadu villages within the Gangolli Police Station limits. The ban, effective from 2:00 PM to midnight on August 31, 2025, coincides with the Ganesh Visarjan procession starting at 4:00 PM from Kalekar Math, Gangolli, passing through sensitive areas like Nadupalli Masjid, Post Office, and Mel Gangolli, before concluding at the Panchagangavali River for idol immersion.
The order aims to maintain law and order in the communally sensitive Gangolli area, where minority communities operate commercial establishments and reside in the town center. The police highlighted the risk of disturbances if bars and wine shops remain open, citing potential alcohol-fueled disruptions during the procession. The ban covers all licensed bars, restaurants, and wine shops within an 8 km radius of Gangolli, including specific areas in Gujjadi (Nayakawadi, Gujjadi Beri), Hosadu (Mullikatte, Arate, Divalli, Ganada Makki), and Trasi (Trasi, Hosapete, Anagodu, Movadi).
The District Collector has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Udupi, to enforce the order immediately, with copies sent to the Police Superintendent, Assistant Commissioner (Kundapur), and Tahsildars of Kundapur and Byndoor for compliance.
Kundapur, August 27, 2025 – The Kundapur-Byndoor unit of the Dakshina Kannada-Udupi Mobile Retailers Association was established during a meeting held at the Vishwabrahmana Samaja Seva Sangha hall in Kundapur. Mahesh Poojari, owner of Smart Tech, Navunda, was unanimously elected as president, and Karunakara Acharya Maravanthe of M2K Mobile, Kundapur, was appointed as secretary. Gangolli, August 25, 2025: Acting on a tip-off, Gangolli police, led by Circle Inspector (In-Charge) Lesh Ganpatrao Chauvhan of Byndoor Circle, conducted a raid on Room No. 108 of Sai Khushi Resort near Trasi Beach on August 25, 2025. The operation targeted an illegal prostitution racket, resulting in the arrest of Sharath alias Mohammad Fayaz and the rescue of a female victim. During interrogation, the victim revealed that the accused lured her with promises of employment and coerced her into prostitution.
The police seized two mobile phones and a car bearing registration number KA-20-Z-0074 from the accused. Sharath alias Mohammad Fayaz was accused to be operating an illicit trafficking network, profiting illegally by exploiting the victim in a public place. A case was registered at Gangolli Police Station under Crime No. 89/2025, invoking Section 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 for human trafficking (punishable by up to seven years imprisonment) and Sections 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, which address running brothels, living off prostitution earnings, procuring persons for prostitution, and detaining individuals in premises for prostitution, respectively, with penalties ranging from two to seven years imprisonment.
Udupi Case: Summer Park Hotel Raid
On August 24, 2025, Udupi Town Police, led by Inspector Manjunath Badiger, raided Room No. 308 of Summer Park Hotel near Geetanjali Silks in Moodanidambooru village, following a tip-off about an immoral trafficking operation. With the assistance of hotel receptionist Srinivas, police apprehended a woman and interrogated her, revealing that Sharath alias Mohammad Fayaz had lured her to Udupi on August 19, 2025, with false promises of employment. Instead, he booked the room and coerced her into prostitution for illegal profits. A case was registered at the Udupi Women’s Police Station under Crime No. 37/2025, invoking Section 143 (human trafficking, punishable by up to seven years) and Section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Sections 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, addressing running brothels, living off prostitution earnings, procuring persons for prostitution, and detaining individuals in premises for prostitution, respectively (penalties ranging from two to seven years).
Kundapur, August 22, 2025 – Canara Bank’s Gangolli branch conducted an awareness and loan disbursement program for fishermen on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Gangolli Gram Panchayat hall. The initiative, aimed at supporting fishermen in purchasing motors, nets, and other equipment, highlighted loan facilities available through government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMSY) and Kisan Credit Card (KCC), offering loans starting at ₹50,000 at zero interest. Additionally, financial assistance for self-employment through self-help groups under the Stree Shakti Yojana was emphasized.
T.A.S. Poornananda, Assistant General Manager of Canara Bank’s Udupi Circle Office, addressed the gathering, detailing the bank’s commitment to supporting fishermen. “Through schemes like PMSY and KCC, we are providing accessible financial aid to help fishermen procure essential equipment,” he said. Pabitra Kumardas, Deputy General Manager of the Udupi Circle Office, disbursed loans to eligible beneficiaries and urged them to leverage these facilities to achieve progress in their livelihoods.

Gangolli, August 21, 2025: In a significant breakthrough, the Gangolli police arrested Naseer Khan, a 52-year-old resident of Sagar taluk, Shivamogga district, who had been absconding for nearly 23 years in connection with a dowry harassment case. The case, registered under Sections 498A (cruelty by husband or relatives), 504 (intentional insult), and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 3, 4, and 6 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, was filed after Khan allegedly harassed his wife over dowry demands.
Despite multiple court summons, Khan evaded authorities for over two decades, remaining in hiding. Acting on credible intelligence, a police team comprising Head Constable Krishna, PC Prasanna, and PC Sandeep Kurani apprehended him on August 20, 2025, in Anandapur, Sagar taluk. He was subsequently produced before the Kundapur court for further legal proceedings.
This arrest underscores the persistence of law enforcement in addressing long-pending cases and highlights ongoing efforts to tackle dowry-related crimes, which remain a significant social issue in India.
