  • WhatsApp Android App Gets GIF Search, Media Sharing Limit Increased to 30 Files

WhatsApp rolled out support for GIF images in its iPhone app in Novemver last year starting, followed by the Android app a month later.

Now, the Facebook-owned WhatsApp has expanded the feature by integrating a GIF search keyboard into the messaging app with the WhatsApp for Android beta version. Alongside this, the WhatsApp beta has also increased the number of media files that can be shared at a time from 10 to 30 files.

The new WhatsApp beta v2.17.6 for Android has introduced a new feature that allows users to search for GIF images directly from the app, and use them in chat conversations. It can be found on the web and use it in chat conversations seamlessly.

A new GIF icon now appears at the bottom when you tap on the emoji button.

Opening the GIF section on WhatsApp throws a lot of popular GIF sharing options available on Giphy (as seen above). You can even search for related GIFs using keywords, select the one you like, and send to WhatsApp users without leaving the app even once. Notably, not all WhatsApp users are seeing Giphy as the GIF image search integration – one of our team for example, is seeing the TENOR GIF search (seen below) instead – possibly because he uses that GIF keyboard on Facebook Messenger. Uninstalling Facebook Messenger did not cause WhatsApp to throw up the Giphy option instead.

  • Now, burqa-clad girl allegedly molested, injured in wee hours

BENGALURU: Even before the outrage over the New Year’s eve molestation incidents could subside, another such incident had rocked the city. The victim of the incident reported on Friday morning is a 25-year-old burqa-clad woman.

The victim suffered minor injuries in the assault. According to Kadugondanahalli (K G Halli) police, the incident occurred between 6.15 to 6.25 am, as the woman was heading to the bus stop. The woman, who is a resident of Vinoba Nagar, was walking along Govindapura Main Road, near Arabic College, to reach the Outer Ring Road junction at Nagawara. After walking almost half the way, she was ‘ambushed’ by an
unidentified youth from behind who whispered ‘Don’t shout’ in Urdu.

Fearing she would be abused by the man, she raised an alarm which caught the attention of locals nearby, the police said. “The girl regularly walks along the Road to catch a bus to Koramangala, where she is employed as a Sales Assistant in a start up. On Friday however, the guy followed and allegedly molested her, resulting in some injuries,” K G Halli police said.
The woman suffered injuries on her tongue, arm and leg. “While the injuries on her tongue were self inflicted due to shock and fear, minor injuries to her arm and leg were caused as the accused pushed the victim to the ground,” police said.
Locals quickly converged on the spot hearing her cries of help, by which time the accused fled the spot.
A complaint was filed by the girl at K G Halli police station during the late hours of noon. Police are on the look out for the accused.
Like the molestation incident in Kammanahalli in the city, the attack was captured on the CCTV camera of a house in the neighbourhood. Footage sourced from the camera showed that the girl was being stalked by the miscreant before he pounced on the girl.

Bengaluru: Amid national outrage over several women being molested in full public view on New Years eve in midtown here, another case of a woman being groped and assaulted by two scooter-borne men near her home has emerged with the shocking incident caught on camera.

The video footage shows two men accost a woman on a scooter, race past her and take a U-turn, only to park the vehicle, after which one of them jumps off and gropes her before escaping, even as bystanders watch without coming to her help. In the video footage caught on the CCTV of a residential building, one of the two men was first seen approaching the woman and forcing himself on her and dragging her to the scooter while the other person is seated on it, before pinning her down.

As the victim resists and tries to free herself from the clutches of the culprit, he pushes her down on the road and both escape from the scene, but not before the victim slaps the one who had grabbed her.

the main culprit who molested the woman and Leno, Sudesh and Somashekar.

A resident with the CCTV footage brought the incident, said to have taken place around 2.30 AM on January 1, to the notice of police.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Praveen Sood said an FIR had been filed and the victim had not yet approached the police. On late December 31 night, several women were molested and groped and lewd remarks passed by miscreants on M G Road and Brigade Road, despite the presence of 1,500 police personnel to control the unruly New Year revellers.

The incident drew flak from many quarters even as Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara stoked a controversy by blaming the youngsters “western ways” for the incidents. These remarks came in for flak even as the National Commission for Women chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam flayed the minister, demanding his resignation.
