  • Gangolli: Stella Maris English Medium School Students Qualify for District-Level Throwball Tournament

    Gangolli, September 1, 2025: Students from Stella Maris English Medium School, Gangolli, excelled in the under-14 boys’ throwball tournament held at the Kundapura taluk level on August 30, 2025. Organized under the aegis of the Karnataka Government, Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Department of School Education, Deputy Director’s Office, Udupi District, and Block Education Officer’s Office, Udupi, the event saw the school’s team clinch first place, qualifying for the district-level competition. This victory has brought pride to the school, enhancing its reputation in sports.

  • Vandse: M.S. Manja Charitable Trust Donates Ambulance to NirAmaya Society

    Kundapur, September 1, 2025 – The M.S. Manja Charitable Trust, Chittoor, handed over an ambulance to NirAmaya Society’s Community Palliative Care Centre in Vandse during a ceremony on September 1, 2025. The event was inaugurated by Trust President Maranakatte Krishnamurthy Manja, who emphasized the importance of delivering healthcare to homes in rural areas. He stated, “This project is crucial for today’s needs, bringing health services directly to the community. As Karnataka’s first such initiative, we hope it thrives, benefiting those in need through education, health, and social welfare efforts.”

    NirAmaya Society President Uday Kumar Shetty, who presided over the event, noted that the community palliative care model, successfully implemented in Kerala, is being piloted in Karnataka at Vandse on a cluster level. The centre will serve Vandse, Chittoor, Idoor-Kunjady, Alur, Haklady, Hemmadi, and Keradi gram panchayats, with an official launch planned before the end of September 2025.

The organization, known for over a century of social reform, welfare, and fostering unity and peace, continues to uphold communal harmony across India.

    The meeting began with a Quran recitation by Qari Zafarulla Khan, followed by a welcome address by Maulana Masihulla Khan Qasmi. Hafiz Sayyed Asim Abdullah spoke on current national issues and responsibilities, while Maulana Rizwan Qasmi, Mandya district president, elaborated on the organization’s structure. The election process saw Maulana Zameer Ahmed Rashadi elected as Udupi district president and Mohammed Khalid Manipura as general secretary. Other appointments included Maulana Masihulla Khan Qasmi (Indrali) and Maulana Abdul Hafiz Qasmi (Karkala) as vice presidents, Maulana Javed Qasmi and Maulana Parvez Alam Nadvi (Kapu) as joint secretaries, Asif Ajekar as treasurer, and Maulana Ubaidurrahman as co-treasurer.   • Kundapur: ₹15.94 Crore Released for Panch Guarantee Schemes in July, Says H. Hariprasad Shetty

    Kundapur, August 28, 2025: At a meeting of the Kundapur Taluk Guarantee Implementation Committee held at the Taluk Panchayat Hall, President H. Hariprasad Shetty reported robust progress in Karnataka’s Panch Guarantee Schemes. By July 2025, Kundapur taluk received ₹15,94,82,613, including ₹7,04,26,000 for Gruha Lakshmi, ₹4,37,45,109 for Gruha Jyothi, ₹2,55,27,659 for Shakti, and ₹1,97,83,845 for Annabhagya, contributing to a cumulative total of ₹3,96,70,81,852. These schemes provide financial aid, free electricity, free bus travel for women, and food security.

    Shetty announced that applications for new ration cards and member additions will open in September, with a formal request to be submitted to the government. He instructed MESCOM officials to consult senior authorities on issuing temporary electricity permits for new house constructions and to resolve eKYC and Aadhaar seeding issues.

    Committee member Zahir Ahmed Nakhuda urged KSRTC to introduce direct bus connectivity from Gangolli to Byndoor, citing demands from two educational institutions, and requested a new transformer for Kadihitlu village in Gujjadi to address power supply issues.

    Shetty noted delays in temporary bus permits for Nada and Badakere due to the District Collector’s transfer but assured resolution within 15 days. He also directed KSRTC to consider extending the Mysuru-Kollur (Hunsur depot) bus service beyond Mangaluru to Kollur or introducing a separate Kundapur-Kollur route. Members Chandra Kanchan and Arun Hakladi emphasized timely electricity bill issuance to avoid confusion, warning that delays cause beneficiary inconvenience.

    The committee addressed Gruha Lakshmi’s eKYC and Aadhaar seeding issues, noting that IT and GST-related discrepancies have been resolved at the government level. Eligible beneficiaries yet to receive funds were advised to submit details through anganwadi workers

    Zahir Ahmed Nakhuda raised concerns about elderly individuals facing difficulties with fingerprint verification, as repeated visits to ration shops pose challenges, particularly in single-member elderly households. He urged the government to formulate relaxed rules for such cases. Members also demanded subsidized rice for APL families and opportunities for new ration cards and member additions.

  • Udupi: Cyber Fraudster Dupes Woman of ₹47,191.50 Posing as Nykaa Representative

    Udupi, August 25, 2025: Jaheen Ayesha, a 27-year-old resident of Udupi, fell victim to a cyber fraud on August 21, 2025, losing ₹47,191.50 to an unidentified individual who contacted her at 4:30 PM. The caller, claiming to be from Nykaa, an online shopping company, informed her that her order was stalled due to an incorrect PIN code and urged her to make an advance payment to activate it, promising a refund. Trusting the caller, Jaheen transferred the amount to the provided bank account. When no refund was received, she realized she had been scammed.

    A case was registered at Udupi Town Police Station under Crime No. 158/2025, invoking Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 for cheating (punishable by up to seven years imprisonment) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, for cheating by personation using a computer resource (punishable by up to seven years and a fine).

  • Gangolli: Canara Bank Hosts Loan Awareness and Disbursement Program for Fishermen

    Kundapur, August 22, 2025 – Canara Bank’s Gangolli branch conducted an awareness and loan disbursement program for fishermen on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Gangolli Gram Panchayat hall. The initiative, aimed at supporting fishermen in purchasing motors, nets, and other equipment, highlighted loan facilities available through government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMSY) and Kisan Credit Card (KCC), offering loans starting at ₹50,000 at zero interest. Additionally, financial assistance for self-employment through self-help groups under the Stree Shakti Yojana was emphasized.
