  • Karnataka Revises SSLC and II PU Exam Rules for 2025–26 Academic Year

    Bengaluru, July 25, 2025: The Karnataka government has unveiled draft rules proposing a revised evaluation pattern for SSLC and II PU examinations, effective from the 2025–26 academic year. Announced on Thursday, the changes lower the pass mark and integrate internal assessments into the final scores, aligning with national board practices.

    For SSLC exams, the pass mark is reduced to 33% of the total marks, down from 35%. Students can achieve this by combining internal assessment and external examination scores, requiring a minimum of 206 out of 625 marks, with at least 30% in each subject. The total marks include 125 for the first language and 100 for other subjects, a structure unchanged from previous norms. Previously, the pass criterion was 35% with no combined average or specific total mark requirement, focusing only on 30% per subject.

    For II PU, the pass threshold is also lowered to 33% of aggregate marks across all subjects, down from 35%, with a mandatory 30% in each subject, now including written exams, internal assessments, or practicals. In subjects without practicals, students need at least 24 out of 80 marks in the written exam, while those with practical components must score at least 21 out of 70 in theory. The practical exam format shifts from 30 to 20 marks, with an additional 10 marks awarded for meeting criteria such as 75% attendance, completed practicals, a certified record book, and exam appearance.

    These amendments, part of the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board First Regulations (Amendment) 2025, aim to address historically low pass percentages—62% for SSLC (5.28 lakh passed out of 8.68 lakh) and 69.16% for II PUC-1 (out of 6.37 lakh)—partly due to the absence of internal marks and a higher threshold.   • Koneru Humpy Makes History, Reaches FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup Semifinals

    Bengaluru, July 21, 2025: Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the semi-finals of the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup. On Sunday, she showcased a brilliant counterattacking game to hold China’s International Master Yuxin Song to a draw, securing her spot in the last four after a closely fought second game. Having won the first game with white pieces, Humpy needed only a draw to advance, a feat she achieved with skill and determination.

    With a guaranteed fourth place, Humpy now has two opportunities to finish in the top three, which would earn her a spot in the next Women’s Candidates’ tournament. The top three qualifiers from this event will advance to that prestigious competition.

    In an all-Indian clash, Grandmaster D Harika and IM Divya Deshmukh ended their quarterfinal match in a draw, setting the stage for a tie-break showdown scheduled for Monday. Meanwhile, Grandmaster R Vaishali faced disappointment, losing to China’s former world women’s champion Zhongyi Tan despite a promising position. Vaishali, who had drawn the first game, couldn’t overcome Tan’s strategic edge.

    China’s top seed Tingjie Lei also advanced to the semifinals, defeating Georgia’s Nana Dzagnidze in a 2-0 sweep. Yuxin Song, needing a win to stay in contention against Humpy, opted for the popular Jobava’s London opening. Humpy quickly equalized but sacrificed two pawns to create opportunities.   • Vadodara teacher gets six months in jail for slapping student, fined Rs 1 lakh

    Gujarat, 20 July 2025: A Vadodara court has sentenced a private tuition teacher to six months of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh for physically assaulting a Class 10 student. The judgment came nearly five years after the incident, which left the 15-year-old with serious injuries to his ears, a TOI report stated.

    The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Vadodara delivered its verdict on Thursday against Jasbirsinh Chauhan, who ran a coaching centre and tutored the boy in English and Social Science. Chauhan was found guilty of subjecting the student to corporal punishment on December 23, 2019.

    Student’s parents witnessed assault at coaching centre

    According to the complaint filed by the student’s father, Tejas Bhatt, the student had gone for tuition as usual that evening. Later, he called his father and asked him to bring an exam form to the coaching centre. When Bhatt and his wife arrived, they allegedly heard sounds of someone being beaten inside the premises.

    Bhatt entered the classroom and saw Chauhan repeatedly slapping his son on the face and ears. Upon being confronted, Chauhan began apologising and said, “He had missed two days of class, during which important topics were taught.”

    Past abuse, medical injuries, and police action

    After the incident, the boy told his parents that this was not the first time Chauhan had hit him. A relative of the family then contacted the child helpline, and a formal police complaint was lodged. Medical tests confirmed that the student had sustained serious injuries, both eardrums were torn and bleeding.

    Despite repeated apologies from Chauhan following the incident, he was arrested in January 2020. After lengthy legal proceedings, the court convicted him and issued the sentence on Thursday.

    ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ, ಕುಂದಾಪುರ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ವಲಯದ 47 ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 25ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆಗೊಳಗಾದ 58 ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 40 ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 40ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ, ಕೆಳಗಿನ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 804 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅನುದಾನರಹಿತ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 43 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, ಒಟ್ಟು 847 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಉನ್ನತ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 8,580, ಅನುದಾನಿತ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 1,116, ಅನುದಾನರಹಿತ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 580, ಮತ್ತು ವಸತಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 221 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲಾ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 13,473, ಅನುದಾನಿತ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 1,987, ಅನುದಾನರಹಿತ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 12,618, ಮತ್ತು ವಸತಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 624 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ — ಒಟ್ಟು 28,702 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು.

    ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ 93 ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳು ಖಾಲಿಯಿದ್ದು, ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 63 ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಅತಿಥಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ನೇಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಉಳಿದ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳಿಗೆ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 35 ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳು ಖಾಲಿಯಿದ್ದು, 34 ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಅತಿಥಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ನೇಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

    ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್-ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿರುವ ಆದ್ಯತೆಯು ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳ ದಾಖಲಾತಿಯ ಕುಸಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕಾರಣವೆಂದು ಕಾಣಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಾಗಿ, ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಕೆಲವು ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್-ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದೆ, ಇದು ಕೆಲವು ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲಾತಿಯ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರಿದೆ. ಈ ಕ್ರಮವು ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳ ಬದುಕಿಗೆ ವರದಾನವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಲಾಗಿದೆ.

    ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಯಾವುದೇ ಶಾಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚುವ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪವಿಲ್ಲವಾದರೂ, ಭವಿಷ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಿಮೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿರುವ ಶಾಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಮೀಪದ ಶಾಲೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಿಲೀನಗೊಳಿಸಬಹುದು ಎಂಬ ಊಹಾಪೋಹಗಳಿವೆ. ಕೇವಲ ಮೂರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವುದು ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕವಾಗಿ ಲಕ್ಷಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ವೆಚ್ಚವನ್ನು ತರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರಿಗೆ ತಿಂಗಳಿಗೆ 70,000 ರಿಂದ 90,000 ರೂ. ವೇತನ, ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ವೇತನ, ಆಹಾರ ಸರಬರಾಜು, ಗ್ಯಾಸ್, ಹಾಲು, ಮೊಟ್ಟೆ, ಬಾಳೆಹಣ್ಣು, ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು, ಶೂಗಳು, ಸಮವಸ್ತ್ರ, ವಿದ್ಯುತ್, ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಅಗತ್ಯ ವಸ್ತುಗಳು ಸೇರಿವೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗೆ ವೆಚ್ಚವು ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ವೆಚ್ಚಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮಾನವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

    ರಾಜ್ಯಾದ್ಯಂತ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಪಬ್ಲಿಕ್ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ LKG ಯಿಂದ ಪಿಯುಸಿ ತನಕ ಓದುವ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತ ಬಸ್ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಆರಂಭಿಸಲು ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಿದೆ. ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳ ಬಲವರ್ಧನೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಒತ್ತು ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಈ ಕುರಿತು ಉಪಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಡಿ.ಕೆ ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್‌ ತಮ್ಮ ಎಕ್ಸ್‌ ಖಾತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋಸ್ಟ್‌ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಹಾಜರಾತಿ, ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಲು ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಮಹತ್ವದ ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಪಬ್ಲಿಕ್‌ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುವ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಅನುಕೂಲ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಲು ಉಚಿತ ಬಸ್‌ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ನೀಡಲಿದೆ ಎಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಎಲ್‌ಕೆಜಿಯಿಂದ ಪಿಯುಸಿ ತನಕ ಓದುವ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತ ಬಸ್ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಲು ಸರ್ಕಾರ ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಿದೆ. ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಇದರ ಸದುಪಯೋಗ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು. ಬಡವರ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕವಾಗಿ, ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ ಬಲ ನೀಡಲು ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಈ ಕ್ರಮ ಮಹತ್ವದ್ದಾಗಿದೆ. ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳ ಸಬಲೀಕರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ದಿಟ್ಟ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಯೂ ಇದಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಎಕ್ಸ್‌ಪೋಸ್ಟ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಶಿರ್ವಾ, ಜುಲೈ 10, 2025: ಮಹಿಳೆಯೋರ್ವರು ವಿವಿಧ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಅಂಗಡಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಲಕ್ಷಾಂತರ ಮೌಲ್ಯದ ಚಿನ್ನ ಖರೀದಿಸಿ ಬಿಲ್ಲು ಮೊತ್ತ ಪಾವತಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿ ಬಳಿಕ ಹಣ ಪಾವತಿಸದೇ ವಂಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಘಟನೆ ಶಿರ್ವ ಪೇಟೆಯ ಬಳಿ ನಡೆದಿದೆ.

    ಫರೀದಾ ಎನ್ನುವ ಮಹಿಳೆ ಶಿರ್ವ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಎನ್ನುವವರು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಶಿರ್ವ ಪೇಟೆಯ ಬಳಿಯ “ ನ್ಯೂ ಭಾರ್ಗವಿ ಜುವೆಲ್ಲರ್ಸ್‌ ” ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಚಿನ್ನಾಭರಣಗಳ ಮಳಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿನ್ನಾಭರಣ ಖರೀದಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಪ್ಸಲ್‌ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಸಂಬಂಧಿಕರ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಮಾರ್ಚ್‌ 8 ರಿಂದ 11ನೇ ತಾರೀಖಿನ ನಡುವೆ 1,78,000/- ಮೊತ್ತದ 69.165 ಗ್ರಾಂ ತೂಕದ ವಿವಿಧ ಮಾದರಿಯ ಚಿನ್ನಾಭರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬಿಲ್ಲು ಮೊತ್ತ ಪಾವತಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿ ಈ ತನಕವೂ ಪಾವತಿಸದೇ ವಂಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಮಾರ್ಚ್‌ 16 ರಂದು ಆರೋಪಿ ಫರೀದಾಳು ಇದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿರ್ವ ಪೇಟೆಯ ಬಳಿಯ ಕೃಪಾ ಜುವೆಲ್ಲರ್ಸ್‌ ನ ಅನುಷ್‌ ರವರಿಗೂ ಫೋನ್‌ ಕರೆ ಮಾಡಿ, ಅವರನ್ನು ನಂಬಿಸಿ, ಒಟ್ಟು 10.740 ಗ್ರಾಂ ತೂಕದ ವಿವಿಧ ಮಾಧರಿಯ ಚಿನ್ನಾಭರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸಿ, ಆರೋಪಿ ಅಪ್ಸಲ್‌ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು, ಬಿಲ್ಲು ಮೊತ್ತ ಪಾವತಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿ ಈ ತನಕವೂ ಪಾವತಿಸದೇ ಮೋಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಈ ಎರಡು ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೇ ಫರೀದಾಳು ಇದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿರ್ವ ಪೇಟೆಯ ಬಳಿಯ ಪುಷ್ಪಾ ಜುವೆಲ್ಲರ್ಸ್‌ ನ ಶ್ರೀಹರ್ಷರವರಿಗೂ ಫೋನ್‌ ಕರೆ ಮಾಡಿ, ಅವರನ್ನು ನಂಬಿಸಿ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 09ರಂದು ಒಟ್ಟು 18.660 ಗ್ರಾಂ ತೂಕದ ವಿವಿಧ ಮಾದರಿಯ ಚಿನ್ನಾಭರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಬಿಲ್ಲು ಮೊತ್ತ ಪಾವತಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿ ಈ ತನಕವೂ ಪಾವತಿಸದೇ ವಂಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಇನ್ನು, ಮೇಲಿನ ಮೂರು ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಆರೋಪಿ ಫರೀದಾಳ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಶಿರ್ವ ಪೊಲೀಸ್‌ ಠಾಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

    ಉಡುಪಿ, ಜುಲೈ 09, 2025: ಉದ್ಯೋಗಸ್ಥ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ಅನುಕೂಲ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಿಳಾ ಮತ್ತು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಮುಖಾಂತರ 4 ಶಿಶುಪಾಲನಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ತರೆಯಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಉದ್ಯೋಗಸ್ಥ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಸುಗಮವಾಗಿ ಕಛೇರಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲು ಹಾಗೂ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಆರೋಗ್ಯದ ಹಿತದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ 6 ತಿಂಗಳಿನಿಂದ 6 ವರ್ಷದ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಯೋಗಕ್ಷೇಮ, ರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪೋಷಣೆ ಅನುವಾಗುವಂತೆ, ಹಾಲುಣಿಸುವ ಕೊಠಡಿ, ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಆಟಿಕೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪೂರಕ ಪೌಷ್ಟಿಕ ಆಹಾರದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಲಾಲನೆ, ಪಾಲನೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ತಪಾಸಣೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.
