  • Kundapura: Mobile Hacked, Rs 1.27 Lakh Transferred from Bank Account; Case Registered

    Kundapura, September 19, 2025 – A case of cyber fraud has been registered at Kollur Police Station after a mobile phone was hacked, leading to the unauthorized transfer of Rs 1.27 lakh from a bank account. The victim, Arun Kumar Shetty from Vandse, discovered the theft upon checking his account following a suspicious call.

    On September 17, Arun received a call from an individual named Rahul, who spoke in Hindi and prompted him to cut the call, citing a “wrong number.” Shortly after, an OTP message arrived on his phone. Suspicious, Arun checked his SDCC Bank account—linked to his mobile—and found only Rs 54 remaining, with Rs 1.26 lakh transferred to another account.

    After reporting the incident via the 1930 helpline, Rs 27,000 was reversed to his account. In his complaint, Arun alleged that Rahul, calling from 90080*****, hacked his phone and siphoned off Rs 1 lakh from his father’s linked account through deception.

  • Kollur: Suspected Suicide Case Uncovered After Discovery of Human Remains

    Kollur, September 15, 2025: A grim discovery was made on Saturday, September 14, 2025, at around 3:30 PM near Belekodlu Road, Jadkal Er, Hosur village, Byndoor taluk, when Ravi alias Ravish (42), a resident of Jadkal village, stumbled upon evidence suggesting a possible suicide. While searching for his cattle in a government forest path, Ravi found a pair of pants, a shirt, a keypad mobile phone, a pair of slippers, and fragments of human bones. A nylon rope, partially cut, was also found tied to a nearby tree.

    Police suspect that an unidentified man, approximately 2-3 months ago, may have committed suicide by tying one end of the rope to the tree and the other around his neck. After the rope broke, the body likely fell and was consumed by wild animals, such as pigs, leaving only bone fragments. The Kollur Police have registered a case under UDR No. 22/2025, invoking Section 194(3)(iv) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and are investigating to identify the deceased and confirm the circumstances.

  • Kundapura: Woman Missing Near Souparnika River in Kollur, Search Operations Underway

    Kundapura, August 30, 2025:The body of Bengaluru-based woman, Vasudha Chakravarthy (46), who had gone missing after being swept away in the Sowparnika river, was found today near Mavinakaru.

    A resident of Tyagarajanagar in Bengaluru, Vasudha had been a frequent visitor to the Kollur temple. On August 27, she reportedly slipped while near the river and was dragged away by the strong current. A rescue team led by expert diver Eshwar Malpe and personnel from the fire department had been conducting searches, but the strong river flow had hampered operations.

    After two days of continuous search, the body was finally recovered today near Mavinakaru. Kollur police, fire service personnel, Eshwar Malpe, and locals including Pradeep Bhat Sampre took part in the operation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

    Kolluru, August 23, 2025 – Kolluru police filed a case against Jagadish Udupa under Crime No. 65/2025 for a provocative Facebook post made on August 22, 2025, at 7:00 PM. The complaint, lodged by Santosh Kulal, a member of the Kolluru Police Station’s Social Media Monitoring Cell, flagged a post from Udupa’s account. The police deemed the post inflammatory, likely to incite communal disharmony and provoke conflict. The case was registered under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, which addresses statements promoting enmity between religious or community groups, punishable by up to three years imprisonment, a fine, or both.

    Karkala, August 23, 2025 – In a similar incident, Karkala Rural police registered a case (Crime No. 100/2025) against Sudeep Shetty from Nitte village for a Facebook post made on August 22, 2025, at 5:00 PM. Sub-Inspector Sundar, while monitoring social media, identified a post on Shetty’s Facebook page. The post, linked to a poster about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announcing Banu Mushtaq, a Booker Prize recipient, for the Dasara inauguration, was deemed to promote enmity and hatred between religious communities. The case was filed under Section 353(2) of the BNS 2023 for inciting communal discord.

    Details of Section 353(2) BNS: This section penalizes the publication or circulation of false information or alarming news, including via electronic means, with intent to promote hatred or enmity between different religious, racial, or community groups. It carries a punishment of up to three years imprisonment, a fine, or both, and is cognizable and non-bailable, triable by any magistrate.

  • Kollur: 5 Pavan Gold Chain Stolen from Devotee at Shri Mookambika Temple

    Kollur, August 16, 2025 – A theft incident occurred at Shri Mookambika Temple in Kollur village, Byndoor taluk, Udupi district, where a 64-year-old woman from Mudradi village, Hebri, lost a 5 pavan gold chain on August 15, 2025. The incident took place near Sri Veerabhadra Gudi during a chaotic crowd rush caused by sudden rainfall. A case has been registered at Kollur Police Station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (Crime No. 64/2025).

    The complainant arrived at the temple around 12:30 PM with her daughter and son-in-law. While they were in the queue, the complainant visited the Sri Veerabhadra Gudi. Heavy rain triggered a rush toward the gudi, causing some people to fall on her. After the crowd dispersed, she returned to the queue and noticed the gold chain was missing. The theft is believed to have occurred between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM near the gudi.

    Kollur police have registered a case based on the complaint and initiated an investigation to identify the culprits and recover the stolen jewelry.
