  • Udupi: Three Arrested in Murder of AKMS Bus Owner Saifuddin

    Udupi, September 28, 2025 – Malpe police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of AKMS bus owner Saifuddin from Atradi.

    The arrested are Mohammed Faisal Khan (27) from Udupi Mission Compound, Mohammed Sharif (37) from Udupi Karambally Janata Colony, and Abdul Shukoor alias Addhu (43) from Surathkal Krishnapur.

    The accused were produced before the Udupi court. The operation was guided by DySP D.T. Prabhu and led by Circle Inspector Ramachandra Naik, with ASI Anil Kumar D. and staff from Malpe Police Station.

    Further details on the motive and investigation are awaited.

  • Udupi: AKMS Bus Owner Saifuddin Murdered in Kodavoor; Assailants Flee

    Udupi, September 25, 2025 – Saifuddin, a rowdy sheeter and owner of AKMS buses from Atradi, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kodavoor, Malpe, early this morning. The attackers fled the scene after the murder.

    Preliminary investigations have revealed that Saifuddin, owner of AKMS buses, was killed by three assailants using lethal weapons at his residence in Kodavoor Salmara, said Udupi District SP Hariram Shankar while addressing the media after visiting the crime scene.

    The attack was carried out by three individuals employed as drivers in Saifuddin’s bus company. Saifuddin had 18 cases registered against him at Udupi and Malpe police stations, where he was listed as a rowdy sheeter and a direct accused in two murder cases.

    The crime occurred between 10 and 11 AM on Wednesday, with the three assailants attacking simultaneously using knives and swords, inflicting multiple stab wounds on the victim’s body.

    The exact motive and details of the accused are yet to be established through further investigation. A case has been registered, and police are probing the circumstances of the murder.

  • Udupi: International Coastal Cleanup Day Celebrated at Malpe Beach and Across District

    Udupi, September 20, 2025 – The International Coastal Cleanup Day, observed globally on September 20, was celebrated with enthusiasm across various beaches in Udupi district, including Malpe Beach, Kapu Blue Flag Beach, Delta Beach, Kodi, Trasi-Maravanthe, and Someshwara Beach in Byndoor. The initiative was organized collaboratively by the Udupi District Administration, District Panchayat, Tourism Department, MAHE University, Canara Bank, Coast Guard, Pollution Control Board, and local organizations.

    At Malpe Beach, District Collector Swarup T.K. led the cleanup drive, joined by government officials, public representatives, local organization members, students, and volunteers. They actively participated in collecting litter to promote a cleaner coastline. During the event, Swarup released an environmental awareness poster and administered a pledge against plastic use.

    Speaking on the occasion, Swarup emphasized, “We must prioritize the cleanliness of our surroundings. A clean environment is essential for good health, and we need to give it utmost importance.” The drive saw participation from Udupi Municipal Council President Prabhakar Poojary, department officials, Canara Bank General Manager Gangadhar, MAHE students, municipal sanitation workers, and personnel from Canara Bank and the Coast Guard.

  • Man from Hassan Dies of Low BP and Low Sugar on NH-66 in Udupi

    Malpe, September 15, 2025 – A 33-year-old man from Hassan district passed away due to health complications after collapsing on the roadside in Kinnimulki village, Udupi taluk, on September 13. The incident occurred around 11:00 AM near Abko Steel Shop on National Highway 66.

    The deceased, identified as A.M. Devraj, was the second son of Ratna (50), a resident of Hassan. Devraj had previously worked in a bakery in Shivamogga and had been employed in home nursing in Udupi for the past two years. He suddenly felt unwell due to low blood pressure (low BP) and low blood sugar (low sugar), leading to him collapsing on the roadside.

    Local social worker Vishu Shetty, who witnessed the incident, promptly rushed Devraj to Udupi District Government Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Devraj succumbed to his condition at 00:51 on September 14, as treatment proved ineffective.

    Following a complaint from the family, the Malpe Police Station has registered a case under UDDR No. 62/2025, Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), pertaining to unnatural death procedures.

  • Malpe Police Arrest Three for Illegal Drug Sale

    Malpe, September 6, 2025: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Malpe Police arrested three individuals on the evening of September 5, 2025, near Shri Bobbarya Daivasthana on the KMP Road in Gujjarabettu, Padutonse village, for illegally selling narcotic substances. The operation was conducted following a tip-off about the illicit activity.

    The arrested individuals are Achutha N. alias Kiran Mendon (45), a resident of Bolur, Urwa, Mangaluru; Puneeth alias Puneeth Raj (24), from Gujjarabettu; and Chandrakant Katwa, originally from Odisha and currently residing in Padutonse. A fourth suspect, Kishore from Kolalagiri, managed to flee the scene during the police raid.

    Acting on credible intelligence about the suspects selling ganja (cannabis) on a motorcycle, the police conducted a targeted operation. Upon spotting the authorities, one suspect escaped, but the three others were apprehended. The police seized 3.480 grams of ganja valued at ₹3,000, MDMA worth ₹10,000, and a motorcycle valued at ₹1,50,000 used in the crime. A case has been registered at the Malpe Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

  • Malpe: Fishing Boat Capsizes in Rough Seas, Four Fishermen Rescued

    Malpe, August 27, 2025 : A fishing boat owned by local resident Jeevan capsized near Thottam, Malpe, on the morning of August 27, 2025, after being caught in turbulent waves triggered by continuous heavy rainfall. The four fishermen on board narrowly escaped danger, thanks to a swift rescue operation.

    Local residents alerted a diving expert team led by Eshwar Malpe, who, along with fishermen Praveen and Uday, reached the site promptly. The team entered the water, provided life jackets to the stranded fishermen, and successfully rescued all four. No injuries were reported, but the incident highlighted the risks posed by rough seas during the monsoon.

    The Eshwar Malpe team appealed to fishermen to mandatorily wear life jackets while venturing into the sea, citing the turbulent conditions caused by ongoing heavy rains.

  • Malpe: Police Seize Vehicle and Sand in Illegal Mining Case

    Malpe, August 27, 2025: During a routine patrol on August 26, 2025, at 2:30 PM, PSI Anil Kumar D. and his team from Malpe Police Station intercepted a cream-and-yellow Tata 407 goods vehicle (registration KL20C9644) near Citizen Circle, Kodavoor village, Udupi taluk, on Ranapratap Singh Marg. The vehicle, driven by Hamza, was moving suspiciously from Kodavoor Junction towards Citizen Circle. Upon inspection, the police found approximately 1.5 units of sand loaded in the vehicle without any valid permits for transportation.

    When questioned, Hamza admitted to lacking documentation for the sand, which was allegedly illegally mined from an undisclosed location. The police seized the sand (estimated value ₹5,000) and the vehicle (estimated value ₹2,00,000) in the presence of witnesses through a mahazar (panchnama). A case was registered at Malpe Police Station under Crime No. 93/2025, invoking Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 for theft, and Sections 4, 4(A), and 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, which address illegal mining and transportation, carrying penalties of up to seven years imprisonment and fines.
