  • Udupi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind to Conduct Seerat Campaign from September 3 to 14

    Udupi, September 1, 2025 – Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Karnataka, has announced its annual Seerat Campaign, titled “Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Herald of Justice,” to be held from September 3 to 14, 2025, across the state. The campaign aims to share Prophet Muhammad’s timeless teachings, dispel misconceptions, and strengthen interfaith relations, according to Nisar Ahmed, president of JIH’s Udupi city branch, speaking at a press conference at Udupi Press Club.

    As part of the campaign, two new books published by Mangaluru’s Shanti Prakashan, highlighting the Prophet’s life and messages, will be released across Udupi district. The initiative includes social service activities like distributing fruits at hospitals, old-age homes, and orphanages on September 3, public meetings, seminars, essay competitions, and medical camps. A women’s discussion forum is scheduled for September 7 at Hotel Durga International in Udupi. These efforts align with JIH’s history of promoting peace and social welfare.

    The press conference was attended by campaign coordinator Farooq Manipal, welcome committee members Dalit leader Sundar Master, Raees Ahmed of Humanitarian Relief Society, Charles Angler of the District Minority Forum, and JIH Udupi women’s wing coordinator Wajida Tabassum.

  • Vandse: M.S. Manja Charitable Trust Donates Ambulance to NirAmaya Society

    Kundapur, September 1, 2025 – The M.S. Manja Charitable Trust, Chittoor, handed over an ambulance to NirAmaya Society’s Community Palliative Care Centre in Vandse during a ceremony on September 1, 2025. The event was inaugurated by Trust President Maranakatte Krishnamurthy Manja, who emphasized the importance of delivering healthcare to homes in rural areas. He stated, “This project is crucial for today’s needs, bringing health services directly to the community. As Karnataka’s first such initiative, we hope it thrives, benefiting those in need through education, health, and social welfare efforts.”

    NirAmaya Society President Uday Kumar Shetty, who presided over the event, noted that the community palliative care model, successfully implemented in Kerala, is being piloted in Karnataka at Vandse on a cluster level. The centre will serve Vandse, Chittoor, Idoor-Kunjady, Alur, Haklady, Hemmadi, and Keradi gram panchayats, with an official launch planned before the end of September 2025.

    Attendees included NirAmaya Society honorary members Dr. Atul Kumar Shetty and Dr. Rajesh Bayari Chittoor, THO Dr. Premanand, Satyashree from Karnataka Health Promotion Trust, Naveen from Arivu Collaborative (Bengaluru), Pallium India (Trivandrum) trainers Dr. Shithal Raj, Dr. Arjun, and Shiny, along with Vandse Gram Panchayat President Geeta Avinash, Chittoor Gram Panchayat President Raviraj Shetty, Alur Gram Panchayat President Rajesh Devadiga, Haklady Gram Panchayat Vice President Subhash Shetty, Vandse Gram Panchayat Vice President Govardhan Jogi, Chittoor Gram Panchayat Vice President Subbu, and primary health centre medical officers, panchayat development officers, and CHOs. The program was hosted by teacher Pratap Kumar Shetty, with Uday Kumar Shetty delivering the welcome and vote of thanks.

  • Udupi: Maulana Zameer Ahmed Rashadi Elected Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind District President, Mohammed Khalid Manipura as General Secretary

    Udupi, September 1, 2025 – Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, a historic organization established in 1919 that played a significant role in India’s freedom struggle, held its Udupi district unit election meeting at Jamia Masjid under the leadership of Hafiz Sayyed Asim Abdullah, state secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Karnataka. The organization, known for over a century of social reform, welfare, and fostering unity and peace, continues to uphold communal harmony across India.

    The meeting began with a Quran recitation by Qari Zafarulla Khan, followed by a welcome address by Maulana Masihulla Khan Qasmi. Hafiz Sayyed Asim Abdullah spoke on current national issues and responsibilities, while Maulana Rizwan Qasmi, Mandya district president, elaborated on the organization’s structure. The election process saw Maulana Zameer Ahmed Rashadi elected as Udupi district president and Mohammed Khalid Manipura as general secretary. Other appointments included Maulana Masihulla Khan Qasmi (Indrali) and Maulana Abdul Hafiz Qasmi (Karkala) as vice presidents, Maulana Javed Qasmi and Maulana Parvez Alam Nadvi (Kapu) as joint secretaries, Asif Ajekar as treasurer, and Maulana Ubaidurrahman as co-treasurer. Directors for various organizational wings were also appointed.

    The event was attended by Mohammed Saleem, co-secretary of Kodagu district, imams, khateebs, and other dignitaries from various mosques in Udupi. The meeting concluded with a dua (prayer).

  • Shiroor: Shiroor Association Donates Computers to Government PU College

    Shiroor, August 31, 2025 – The Shiroor Association, in collaboration with M.M. Foundation, donated eight computers to Shiroor Government Pre-University College to bolster its newly launched computer science program. The Shiroor Association contributed three computers, while M.M. Foundation provided five.

    Speaking at the event, Shiroor Association President Munaf emphasized the college’s legacy as a historic educational institution that has educated thousands of students. Noting a recent decline in enrollment, he stated, “To provide better facilities in rural areas, we are donating computers with the help of donors. We urge rural students to make the most of this opportunity.”

  • Shiroor: Youth Killed in Tragic Bike-Lorry Collision Near Police Checkpost

    Shiroor, August 31, 2025 – A tragic accident occurred near the Shiroor border police checkpost on the night of August 29, 2025, when Gopal J. Mesta (25), a resident of Hadavinakone, Shirur, was killed after a bike he was on collided with a lorry.

    The incident took place around 11:00 PM as Gopal, an active member of the Ganesh Seva Sangha and various local organizations, was heading to eat after participating in a Ganesh Chaturthi program. The collision caused the lorry to run over him, leading to his untimely death. A case has been registered at Byndoor police station, and investigations are underway.

  • Kundapur: Sachi Shetty of Sujnana PU College Selected for State-Level Shuttle Badminton

    Kundapura, August 31, 2025: Saachi Shetty, a student from the science stream at Sujnana Pre-University College, Kundapura, has secured a place in the state-level shuttle badminton competition. Her selection came after an outstanding performance at the Udupi district-level inter-college boys’ and girls’ shuttle badminton tournament, jointly organized by the Department of School Education (Pre-University), Udupi district, and Bhandarkars’ Pre-University College, Kundapur.

    The achievement was celebrated by Sujnana Educational Trust’s leadership, with President Dr. Ramesh Shetty, Secretary Pratap Chandra Shetty, Treasurer Bharat Shetty, and Principal Ranjan Shetty congratulating Sachi for her success. The college’s Physical Education Director, Jayalatha, provided guidance to the student, contributing to her accomplishment.

  • Kundapura: Four Interstate Thieves Arrested in House Burglary Case

    Kundapura, August 31, 2025: Kundapura police, in coordination with Haliyal police from Uttar Kannada district, have arrested four interstate thieves on a body warrant in connection with house burglary cases. The accused, identified as Vivek Ambar (26), Aziz alias Chhote (28), Lakhan Shok Kulkarni (31), and Sandeep Dileep (25), all residents of Solapur, Maharashtra, were involved in burglaries in Kundapura and Haliyal. On July 19, they allegedly broke into the house of Rohit on BB Road, West Block, Kundapura, stealing gold ornaments and valuables worth lakhs when the house was unoccupied. Additionally, they stole gold and silver ornaments worth ₹4.57 lakh from the residence of P. Ravindra in Kundapura. The group also committed thefts within the Haliyal police station jurisdiction.

    During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the Kundapura burglaries. Based on this, Kundapura police took them into custody and presented them before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody. Among the accused, Lakhan faces 28 cases across Karnataka, Maharashtra, and other states, with convictions in three cases. Aziz has two cases registered against him in Karnataka and additional cases in Maharashtra, while Sandeep is linked to robbery and theft cases in Maharashtra.

  • Udupi: BJP, JDS Play Politics on Religion and Emotions, Says DCM DKS

    Udupi, August 30, 2025: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) for engaging in politics centered on religion and emotions, stating, “BJP and JDS do not focus on people’s livelihoods. They play politics on religion and emotions.” He made these remarks in response to media queries in Udupi, specifically addressing a BJP-JDS meeting in Dharmasthala.

I need everyone’s blessings.” Addressing speculations about a “September Revolution” and whether this was an apt time for prayers, he clarified, “There’s nothing like that. Prayer is my natural practice. Udupi Krishna Math had invited me earlier, even after our government came to power, but I couldn’t come then. Now, I’m here.”

  • Kundapura: Janata PU College Hosts District-Level Wrestling Tournament, Emphasizes Sports and Education

    Kundapura, August 30, 2025 – Janata Pre-University College, Hemmadi, in collaboration with the Udupi Pre-University Education Department, organized a district-level wrestling tournament for boys and girls. The event highlighted the synergy between education and sports in fostering discipline and personal growth. Chief guest Nagaraj Kharvi Kanchagodu, a national swimmer and Guinness record holder, stated, “Education is a light that grows brighter when shared.
