  • Puttur: DNA Report Confirms BJP Leader’s Son as Father in Rape and Deception Case

    Puttur, September 27, 2025 – A DNA test report has confirmed that Shri Krishna J. Rao, son of BJP leader P.G. Jagannivas Rao, is the father of the child in a case involving rape and deception of a woman. The report was submitted to the court on Friday and informed to the victim’s family, revealed K.P. Nanjundi, State President of Vishwakarma Mahamandal, during a press conference in Puttur on Saturday.

    Nanjundi stated that injustice has been done to a poor woman from the community. “In ancient times, Sita underwent the Agni Pariksha; today, DNA testing is the ultimate truth. The report is clear and has already been filed in court.”

    He added that the family insists on marriage between Shri Krishna and the victim, saying, “Marriage is best for both. We don’t want court proceedings, but the law will take its course.”

    Leaders from RSS, Bajrang Dal, Sri Ram Sene, and Hindutva figures like Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and BJP district president should ensure justice for the community’s victim, Nanjundi urged.

    The press meet was attended by the victim, her mother Namita Acharya, and union leaders.

  • Udupi: Accused Attempts Suicide by Consuming Harpic in Women’s Police Station

    Udupi, September 27, 2025 – An accused individual, Rakshit Shetty (22), attempted suicide by consuming Harpic in the washroom of Udupi City Women’s Police Station, in an apparent bid to evade trial.

    Rakshit, the second accused in a case, was taken into police custody from the Additional District and Sessions Court FTSC-1, Udupi. While in custody, he requested to use the washroom. Seizing the opportunity, he drank Harpic available there to avoid further investigation. Police immediately rushed him for medical treatment, and he is under care.

    A case has been registered at Udupi City Women’s Police Station regarding the incident.

  • Karkala: Congress Files Complaint Against BJP IT Cell’s Prakhyat BJ for Defamatory Posts Against CM Siddaramaiah

    Udupi, September 24, 2025 – Karkala City Police Station has registered a case against Prakhyat B.J., a prominent BJP IT cell member from Idu village in Karkala taluk, for allegedly spreading defamatory messages about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Kateelu Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple on social media.

    In the complaint, Karkala Congress General Secretary Manjunath Jogi accused Prakhyat B.J. of using WhatsApp, Facebook, and other platforms to falsely claim that the government’s price hikes have affected temple services, employing derogatory language to disrupt social harmony. Jogi noted that Prakhyat has repeatedly targeted Congress leaders at national and state levels with insults, with previous complaints already filed against him.

    Jogi urged immediate interrogation and legal action.

  • Udupi: Hit-and-Run on Kapu NH, Youth’s Body Crushed; Anush Bhandari (21) Killed

    Udupi, September 23, 2025 – In a horrific hit-and-run incident on the Kapu National Highway late Monday night, a 21-year-old youth was struck by an unidentified vehicle and left to die, with his body subsequently mangled by passing traffic. The victim, Anush Bhandari, succumbed at the scene.

    Anush, a resident of Santekatte in Udupi and employed in Bengaluru, had returned to Udupi six months ago. He was riding his scooter when the accident occurred. After being hit and thrown onto the road, multiple vehicles ran over his body, reducing it to a gruesome state by the time it was discovered.

    The mutilated remains were sent for post-mortem at Ajjarkad Hospital. A case has been registered at Kapu Police Station, with investigations underway to identify the fleeing vehicle and driver.

  • Udupi: Lokayukta Officials Raid Urban and Rural Planning Office in Manipal Over Pending Files

    Udupi, September 22, 2025 – In response to numerous public complaints, a team from the Udupi Lokayukta office conducted a surprise raid on the Urban and Rural Planning Department at Rajathadri office in Manipal on Monday afternoon, inspecting records for delays in processing applications.

    The raid was prompted by grievances regarding pending 9/11 (layout approvals) and Ekvinyasa (development plans) files, which have reportedly been delayed without justification. Lokayukta officials are examining the office to address these issues and ensure accountability.

  • Udupi: DC Swaroopa T.K. Directs Officials to Implement Measures for Street Dog Population Control

    Udupi, September 20, 2025 – The number of street dogs in the district is rising, causing public inconvenience, and all necessary steps must be taken to control them, directed District Collector Swaroopa T.K. during a meeting of the District Animal Welfare Committee at the Rajatadri Deputy Commissioner’s Office auditorium in Manipal on Thursday.

    Presiding over the meeting, Swaroopa stressed that sterilization surgery is the key method for managing street dog populations. Local bodies must allocate funds annually for this purpose at urban and rural levels. She instructed implementing the ABC (Animal Birth Control) program with clean surgical facilities, adequate kennels for scientific capture, four-day post-surgery care, trained surgeons and staff, or through contracts with registered animal welfare organizations under the Animal Welfare Board of India.

    The district receives daily complaints about street dogs attacking passengers arriving by train or bus at night. Swaroopa urged immediate action to address these issues.

    Attendees included Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Manu Patel, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Dr. M.C. Reddappa, Municipal Council President Mahantesh Hangaragi, and various district-level officials and implementing authorities.

  • Manipal: Two Business Management Students Arrested for Ganja Sale in Apartment Flat

    Udupi, September 20, 2025 – Manipal police have arrested two individuals for allegedly selling ganja in a flat at Royal Embassy Apartment. The accused, Aryan C. Tadani and Aryan Chagappa, both Business Management students at a prestigious Manipal college, were taken into custody.

    Acting on information about ganja sales in Flat No. C-1702 on the 17th floor of Royal Embassy Apartment, police raided the location and apprehended Aryan C. Tadani. From him, they seized 2,105 grams of ganja valued at Rs 60,000, along with a hookah, digital scale, and a mobile phone. A case was registered at Manipal Police Station.

    In a related development, Aryan Chagappa was arrested in Mangalore. A search of his scooter revealed 627 grams of ganja worth Rs 20,000, which was seized.

    Investigations revealed that both accused are addicts and were supplying ganja to fellow students. They were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

  • Udupi: International Coastal Cleanup Day Celebrated at Malpe Beach and Across District

    Udupi, September 20, 2025 – The International Coastal Cleanup Day, observed globally on September 20, was celebrated with enthusiasm across various beaches in Udupi district, including Malpe Beach, Kapu Blue Flag Beach, Delta Beach, Kodi, Trasi-Maravanthe, and Someshwara Beach in Byndoor. The initiative was organized collaboratively by the Udupi District Administration, District Panchayat, Tourism Department, MAHE University, Canara Bank, Coast Guard, Pollution Control Board, and local organizations.

    At Malpe Beach, District Collector Swarup T.K. led the cleanup drive, joined by government officials, public representatives, local organization members, students, and volunteers. They actively participated in collecting litter to promote a cleaner coastline. During the event, Swarup released an environmental awareness poster and administered a pledge against plastic use.

    Speaking on the occasion, Swarup emphasized, “We must prioritize the cleanliness of our surroundings. A clean environment is essential for good health, and we need to give it utmost importance.” The drive saw participation from Udupi Municipal Council President Prabhakar Poojary, department officials, Canara Bank General Manager Gangadhar, MAHE students, municipal sanitation workers, and personnel from Canara Bank and the Coast Guard.
