  • Bengaluru: Dasara Holidays Declared for School Students from September 20 to October 7, 2025

    Bengaluru, September 19, 2025 – The Karnataka government has announced Dasara holidays for all students in government, aided, and private schools across the state from September 20 to October 7, 2025, bringing festive cheer to schoolchildren. An official order has been issued by the state government to this effect.

    The Department of School Education has already released a comprehensive guideline for the 2025-26 academic year, detailing holidays and school activities. As per these guidelines, the Dasara holidays have been scheduled. The second term of classes will commence on October 8, 2025, and continue until April 10, 2026.

    The 18-day holiday period aligns with the world-famous Mysuru Dasara Mahotsava, allowing students to participate in and enjoy the cultural festivities. The Education Department encourages children to immerse themselves in the vibrant celebrations of the state’s iconic festival during this break.

  • Tragedy at Kundapura Gopadi Cherki Beach: Two Bengaluru Youths Drown, One Missing

    Kundapur, September 7, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Gopadi Cherki Beach in Kundapur taluk, Udupi district, where four youths from Bengaluru were swept away by strong sea currents while swimming. Two of the youths were found dead, one was rescued but remains in critical condition, and another is missing, prompting an ongoing search operation.

    A group of 10 youths from Bengaluru, staying at Gayathri Compound in Kumbashi, visited the beach for a recreational swim on Sunday afternoon. Nine of them entered the sea at Gopadi Cherki Beach, where turbulent waves overwhelmed four of them. With the assistance of local residents and their companions, one youth was rescued and immediately rushed to Manipal Hospital in critical condition.

    Expert divers Ishwar Malpe, Nagaraj Puthran of Jeevan Mitra, and Dinesh Kharvi, along with local support, recovered the bodies of two deceased youths. Search efforts continue for the missing individual, with limited details available about the victims’ identities at this time.

  • Unidentified Beggar Found Dead Near Old Bus Stand in Bhatkal, Police Seek Public Help

    Bhatkal, September 3, 2025: An unidentified beggar was found dead in front of a shop near the old bus stand in Bhatkal, Karnataka, on September 3, 2025. The body has been shifted to the morgue at Bhatkal Government Hospital for further examination and identification.

    Preliminary investigations suggest the deceased may hail from Athani in Belgaum district, though specific details about his identity remain unconfirmed. Authorities believe the individual, who was reportedly suffering from ill health, passed away while sitting in front of the shop.

  • Sirsi: Accused Absconding for 35 Years Nabbed

    Sirsi, August 25, 2025 – The Uttara Kannada District Police successfully apprehended Deepak Vithal Bhandari, aged 61, who had been absconding for 35 years in connection with an assault case registered in 1990. The incident occurred on November 29, 1990, near Five Road in Sirsi, where Deepak, then a resident of Kumta Road near Agasebagilu Church, Sirsi, allegedly assaulted Dinkar Narayan Shetty, causing him grievous harm. A complaint filed by Narayan Nagappa Shetty led to a case being registered at Sirsi Town Police Station under Crime No. 155/1990, citing Sections 341 (wrongful restraint, punishable by up to one month), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, punishable by up to three years), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

    Despite extensive searches in Hubballi, Mangaluru, and Bengaluru over the years, Deepak evaded authorities, failing to appear at the police station or court. A special task force was formed to track him down, and credible intelligence confirmed his presence in New Delhi, residing in Chanakya Puri, Satya Niketan, New Delhi-110021. The team learned he was traveling to Dandeli, and on August 25, 2025, they arrested him there and presented him before the court.

    The operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Deepan M.N. (IPS), Additional Superintendents Krishna Murthy J. and Jagadish Naik, Deputy Superintendent Geeta Patil, and Circle Inspector Shashikanth Verma. The team, led by PSI Nagappa and PSI (Investigation) Narayan R. Rathod of Sirsi Town Police Station, included constables Hanumant Kabadi, Tukaram Banakar, Ramayya Poojari, Saddam Hasen B., Channabasappa Kyarakatti, Hanumant Makapur, and technical staff Uday Gunaga and Baban Kadam. SP Deepan commended the team for their diligent efforts in resolving this long-pending case.

  • Kapu: Knowledge Over Wealth Emphasized at Islamic Education Felicitation Event

    Kapu, August 18, 2025 – The Board of Islamic Education Karnataka Kapu Centre hosted a felicitation ceremony at the K. One Hotel auditorium in Kapu, Udupi district, on August 17, 2025, to honor students for their academic achievements. The event, attended by prominent religious and community leaders, underscored the significance of acquiring knowledge over material wealth.

    Maulana Adil Nadvi, religious scholar from Ayesha Masjid, Najar, spoke as the chief guest, emphasizing that wealth without knowledge renders life meaningless. He urged individuals to pursue knowledge diligently, even if it requires great effort, and to seek both worldly and spiritual wisdom. He highlighted that the Quran, the final divine scripture, begins with a verse advocating the acquisition of knowledge.

    The event was presided over by Anwar Ali, president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Kapu Circle, who highlighted the organization’s mission to build a virtuous society, eradicate evil, promote ethical values among youth, and foster peace, love, and harmony. He encouraged active participation in these efforts.

    The program began with a Quran recitation by Faran Begum. Muhammad Sharif Sheikh welcomed the guests, and Shehenaz, director of the Board of Islamic Education, delivered the introductory speech. Chief guests Zakir Hussain, Asif J.D., and Ashfaq Ahmad Mujawar felicitated students who excelled in the Board of Islamic Education exams, as well as those from the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) and Girls Islamic Organisation (GIO) who scored above 80% in SSLC and PUC exams.   • Fire Safety Awareness Program at St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi

    Udupi, July 19, 2025: On July 18, 2025, St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi conducted a Fire Safety Talk and Mock Drill for its students at St Mary’s Auditorium at 1.45 p.m. The program aimed to educate students on fire safety measures, emergency procedures, and evacuation protocols.

    The chief guest, Mr M Keshava Raghavendra, a leading fire officer of Udupi District, delivered an insightful awareness session on fire safety. He enlightened the students on different types of fires and the appropriate use of various fire extinguishers. Additionally, he covered other essential emergency safety measures, equipping the students with vital knowledge to handle such situations.

    The theoretical session was followed by a practical demonstration by Mr Raghavendra and his team, comprising five more members, from their Fire Safety Vehicle. The hands-on demonstration provided the students with a unique opportunity to witness fire safety equipment in action, further reinforcing their understanding of the subject.

    The program concluded with a valuable Question and Answer session, where students clarified their doubts and gained a deeper understanding of fire safety protocols. The initiative taken by the school undoubtedly benefited the students. Rev. Fr Vijay Dsouza, the Principal and Ms Rita Quadros the Vice Principal were present during the program.

    ಭಟ್ಕಳ, ಜುಲೈ 16, 2025: ಮನೆಯ ಮುಂದೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದ ಡಿಜೈರ್‌ ಕಾರು ಕಳವಾದ ಪ್ರಕರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಟ್ಕಳ ಶಹರ ಠಾಣೆ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಕೇವಲ 48 ಗಂಟೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರು ಪತ್ತೆ ಹಚ್ಚಿ, ಇಬ್ಬರು ಆರೋಪಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಆರೋಪಿಗಳು ಭಟ್ಕಳದವರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಪದ್ಮನಾಭ(56) ಎಂಬವರಿಗೆ ಜು.10ರಂದು ಆರ್ಮಿ ಆಫೀಸರ್ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಕರೆದು ಮಾಡಿದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ, ತನಗೆ ಮನೆ ಬಾಡಿಗೆ ಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭ 25,000ರೂ. ಮುಂಗಡ ಮತ್ತು 13,000ರೂ. ಬಾಡಿಗೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಆತನು 1 ರೂ. ಗೂಗಲ್ ಪೇ ಮಾಡುವಂತೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಅದರಂತೆ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭ ಕೂಡಲೇ 1 ರೂ. ಗೂಗಲ್ ಪೇ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ಬಳಿಕ ಅವರು ಆತನ ಜೊತೆ ಪೋನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅವರ ಖಾತೆಯಿಂದ 38,000ರೂ. ಆತನ ಖಾತೆಗೆ ವರ್ಗಾವಣೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ನಂಬಿಸಿ ವಂಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ದೂರಲಾಗಿದೆ

    ಭಟ್ಕಳ , ಜುಲೈ 13, 2025: ಭಟ್ಕಳ ನಗರವನ್ನು ಸ್ಫೋಟಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ಇ-ಮೇಲ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಬೆದರಿಕೆ ಹಾಕಿದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಸುಳಿವನ್ನು ಪತ್ತೆ ಮಾಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಭಟ್ಕಳ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಮತ್ತು ಸೈಬರ್ ತನಿಖಾ ವಿಭಾಗ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಪ್ರಕರಣದ ಬೆನ್ನತ್ತಿ ತನಿಖೆ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಪೊಲೀಸರಿಗೆ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ.

    ತಮಿಳುನಾಡು ಮೂಲದ ಕಣ್ಣನ್ ಎಂಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಮೊಬೈಲ್‌ನಿಂದ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬ ಗುಪ್ತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಭಟ್ಕಳ ನಗರವನ್ನು ಸ್ಫೋಟಿಸುವ ಬೆದರಿಕೆಯ ಇ-ಮೇಲ್ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಈ ಬೆದರಿಕೆಯ ಇ-ಮೇಲ್ ಕಳುಹಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ತನಿಖೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿದುಬಂದಿದೆ. ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಕಣ್ಣನ್‌ನಿಂದ ಈ ಬೆದರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ ಹೇಗೆ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡನೋ ಎಂಬ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಕಣ್ಣನ್ ಗುರುಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಎಂಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ವಿಚಾರಣೆ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

    ಕಣ್ಣನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಈ ಮೋಸ್ಟ್ ವಾಂಟೆಡ್ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ನಡುವೆ ಭೇಟಿಯ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಪೊಲೀಸರು ತನಿಖೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪತ್ತೆಹಚ್ಚಲು ಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಭಟ್ಕಳ ಸ್ಫೋಟ ಬೆದರಿಕೆಯ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಹಿಂದೆ ಮೈಸೂರು, ಬಳ್ಳಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕೇರಳ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಬೇರೆ ಕಡೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಬಾಂಬ್ ಸ್ಫೋಟದ ಬೆದರಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿರುವುದು ತಿಳಿದುಬಂದಿದೆ. ಪೊಲೀಸರಿಗೆ ಈ ಮೋಸ್ಟ್ ವಾಂಟೆಡ್ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಈಗ ಮೈಸೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿದೆ.

    ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮತ್ತು ಕೇರಳ ಪೊಲೀಸರ ಸಹಕಾರದಿಂದ ಈ ಆರೋಪಿಯ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಬಯಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಉತ್ತರಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಎಸ್ಪಿ ನಾರಾಯಣ್ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಆರೋಪಿಯನ್ನು ಪತ್ತೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೋಸ್ಟ್ ವಾಂಟೆಡ್ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ ನಾಳೆ ಕಾರವಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆತರಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾರ್ಹ ಮೂಲಗಳು ತಿಳಿಸಿವೆ. ಈ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಮೈಸೂರು, ಬಳ್ಳಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕೇರಳ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಸಹ ವಿಚಾರಣೆ ನಡೆಸುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯಿದೆ.
