  • Tragic Road Accident Near Ankola: Two Dead, Nine Injured in KSRTC Bus-Tanker Collision

    Ankola, September 18, 2025 – A horrific accident on National Highway 52 near Adlur in Ankola taluk claimed two lives and injured nine others when a KSRTC bus collided head-on with a tanker lorry. The tanker driver and one bus passenger died on the spot, with the bus overturning and being severely damaged.

    The KSRTC bus (KA 31 F 1247), traveling from Makki Gadde to Ankola, and the tanker (KA 29 C 2998), heading from Ankola to Yellapur, crashed in front of Taranga Hotel. The tanker driver, Sharappa S. from Muddebihaal, succumbed at the scene. The passenger who died was Bhaskar Ganvkar from Keni in the taluk.

    The bus driver, Ratnakar Naik from Aversa Dandebaag, suffered leg injuries, along with eight other passengers. The injured include school teacher Veena Venkataramana from Makki Gadde, Pragna Pradeep Naik Alageri and her daughter Sanvi, Savitri Daaku Gowda Okkal Belase, Raksha Raghavendra Banavali from Aversa, bus conductor Chandrashekar Narayana Naik Kodkani, Shridhar Ishwara Harikant from Balale, Radhakrishna Mahabaleshwar Naik from Makki Gadde, and another passenger who self-transported to Karwar District Hospital. Ambulances from Ankola, Ramanguli, Gokarna, and Gullahpur rushed the injured to taluk and district hospitals for treatment.

    The crash occurred when the tanker, attempting to overtake, lost control and slammed into the oncoming bus, causing it to flip and shatter into pieces. PSIs Gurunath Hadimani and Sunil Hullolli arrived to oversee the investigation and legal proceedings.

    SP Deepan M.N., en route to a Sharavati Pumped Storage hearing in Gerusoppe, rushed to the scene and Ankola Government Hospital upon learning of the accident. CPI Chandrashekar Mathapati coordinated with senior officials. KSRTC Divisional Officer Shivanand and others inspected the site.

    Highway patrol ASI Devidas and constable Umesh, 112 emergency staff, police, and Home Guard personnel managed traffic and cleared the road using cranes to move the vehicles. Social workers Vijayakumar Naik from Kanasi Gadde and Bommayya Naik assisted in transporting bodies to the taluk hospital mortuary. Locals like Ganapati Naik from Moolmane, Manjunatha, and residents from Agasur, Adlur, and nearby areas provided humanitarian aid.

  • Ankola: Public Outrage Over Pothole-Ridden State Highway, Plants Planted in Protest

    Ankola, August 31, 2025 – Public frustration over the deteriorating condition of a key state highway in Ankola taluk, particularly near the Poojageri bridge, erupted into a unique protest during Ganesh Chaturthi. Residents, angered by the administration’s failure to address massive potholes that have disrupted traffic and endangered lives, planted trees and placed stones in the potholes to highlight the issue. The highway, connecting Belekeri to Gangavali bridge and Gokarna, has been neglected for 2–3 years, with only temporary patchwork repairs like filling potholes with stones and gravel, despite repeated complaints. Social media videos and images of the potholes have gone viral, drawing attention to the issue but yielding no permanent solution.

    The protest, intensified during Gauri festival, aimed to alert drivers and pedestrians, especially during Ganesh idol immersion processions near Poojageri stream, where thousands gather. Potholes pose risks to vehicles carrying idols and to devotees, with potential for accidents or injuries. Locals fear damage to clay idols and injuries to women and children navigating the hazardous road. Despite tenders being issued for repairs, delays and excuses about the monsoon season have fueled public anger. The Public Works Department (PWD) has been criticized for its irresponsible approach, with temporary fixes washing away in rains.

    The highway’s condition affects thousands of daily commuters, including school and college students, and tourists visiting Gokarna. Emergency vehicles like ambulances struggle to navigate the road, raising fears of further accidents. Noted naturopath and Rajyotsava awardee Hanumant Gowda Belambar urged the tahsildar and district authorities to inspect the site and issue strict directives to the PWD. Locals, including community leaders and students, have warned of escalating protests, including road blockades and PWD office sieges, if the issue isn’t resolved by September 10, 2025.

    Bengaluru, August 17, 2025 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted extremely heavy rainfall in Karnataka’s coastal and south interior districts on August 18, 2025, prompting a red alert for Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga. An orange alert has been issued for north interior districts, including Hassan, Kodagu, Haveri, and Belagavi, while a yellow alert covers Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Vijayanagara, Yadgir, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, and Mysuru.     ಅಂಕೋಲ, ಜುಲೈ 21, 2025:  ಇಂದು ಬೆಳಗಿನ ಜಾವ ಸುಮಾರು 3 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಅಂಕೋಲಾ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಅಗಸೂರು ಬಳಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭೀಕರ ಅಪಘಾತ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದೆ.

    ಬೆಳಗಾವಿಯಿಂದ ಯಲ್ಲಾಪುರ-ಅಂಕೋಲಾ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಕಡೆಗೆ ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಬಸ್, ಚಾಲಕನ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ತಪ್ಪಿ, ಕಿರು ಸೇತುವೆಗೆ ಡಿಕ್ಕಿ ಹೊಡೆದು ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಇದ್ದ ಹಳ್ಳಕ್ಕೆ ಬಿದ್ದಿದೆ.

    ಈ ದುರ್ಘಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 18 ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರು ಗಾಯಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎನ್ನಲಾಗಿದೆ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಗಾಯಾಳುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಐವರು ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗಾಗಿ ಕಾರವಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗಳಿಗೆ ರವಾನಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

    ಈ ಅಪಘಾತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರೊಬ್ಬರು ಮೃತಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಬಂದಿದೆ.

    ಅಪಘಾತ ಸಂಭವಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ, ದಿನಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ಸಾಗಾಟ ಮಾಡುವ ಚಾಲಕ ಸೈಯದ್ ಜಾಕಿರ್ ಇನಾಮ್‌ದಾರ, ಆಂಬ್ಯುಲೆನ್ಸ್ ವಾಹನಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯರು ಮತ್ತು ದಾರಿಹೋಕರು ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ನೆರವಿಗೆ ಧಾವಿಸಿ ಗಾಯಾಳುಗಳನ್ನು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ಸಾಗಿಸಲು ಸಹಕರಿಸಿದರು.

    ಚಾಲಕನ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಅತಿ ವೇಗವೇ ಅಪಘಾತಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕಾರಣ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದುಬಂದಿದೆ. ಅನೇಕ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರು ಸಣ್ಣಪುಟ್ಟ ಗಾಯಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾಣಾಪಾಯದಿಂದ ಪಾರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬಸ್ ಹಳ್ಳಕ್ಕೆ ಬಿದ್ದರೂ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರು ಅಪಾಯದಿಂದ ಪಾರಾಗಿರುವುದು ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯ ಸಂಗತಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಘಟನೆ ಕುರಿತು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗಬೇಕಿದೆ.

    ಕಾರವಾರ: ಅಂಕೋಲಾ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಶೇಡಿಕುಳ್ಳಿ ಸಮುದ್ರತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳವಾರ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಬೃಹತ್ ತಿಮಿಂಗಿಲವೊಂದರ ಕಳೇಬರ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಕೊಳೆತ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ಈ ತಿಮಿಂಗಿಲ ಸುಮಾರು ಒಂದು ವಾರದ ಹಿಂದೆ ಮೃತಪಟ್ಟಿರಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಅಂದಾಜಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

    ಶೇಡಿಕುಳ್ಳಿ ಕಡಲ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಮಿಂಗಿಲದ ಕಳೇಬರವನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಿದ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಮೀನುಗಾರರು, ತಕ್ಷಣ ಅರಣ್ಯ ಇಲಾಖೆಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ರವಾನಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ ಅರಣ್ಯ ಇಲಾಖೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕಡಲ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಕಳೇಬರ: ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತರಕನ್ನಡ ಕರಾವಳಿ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಲ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಕಳೇಬರಗಳು ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗುವುದು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಕಡಲ ಪರಿಸರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಇತರ ಕಾರಣಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಆತಂಕ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದೆ.

    2023ರ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಅಂಕೋಲಾ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಅಲಗೇರಿ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಬಳಿಯ ಅಸ್ಸು ದಂಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 40 ಅಡಿ ಉದ್ದದ ಬೃಹತ್​ ತಿಮಿಂಗಿಲವೊಂದರ ಕಳೇಬರ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಕೊಳೆತ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಈ ತಿಮಿಂಗಿಲವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲೇ ಜೆಸಿಬಿ ಬಳಸಿ ಹೂಳಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷ ಗೋಕರ್ಣದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಕಡಲತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಮಿಂಗಿಲ ಕಳೇಬರ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಇದು ಸುಮಾರು 25 ಅಡಿ ಉದ್ದವಿತ್ತು.

    ಇನ್ನು ಕಳೆದ ಕೆಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕರಾವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಡಾಲ್ಫಿನ್‌ಗಳ ಕಳೇಬರಗಳು ಸಹ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಸೇವನೆಯಿಂದಲೇ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಡಾಲ್ಫಿನ್ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿರುವ ಆಘಾತಕಾರಿ ಘಟನೆ ಠಾಗೋರ್ ಕಡಲತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ನಡೆದಿತ್ತು.

    “ಡಾಲ್ಫಿನ್ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಬಲೆಯ ತುಂಡುಗಳು ಸಿಕ್ಕಿವೆ. ಇದು ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಸೇವನೆಯಿಂದಲೇ ಡಾಲ್ಫಿನ್ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕಡಲತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗಾಗ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾದ ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಸೇವನೆ ಸಾವಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೇ ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ಬಂಡೆ ಇಲ್ಲವೇ ಹಡಗುಗಳಿಗೆ ಡಿಕ್ಕಿಯಾಗಿ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪುತ್ತವೆ. ಇದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಕಡಲಾಮೆ, ಮೀನುಗಳು ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಜಲಚರಗಳು ಇದರ ದುಷ್ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಬಳಕೆ ನಿವಾರಣೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜನ‌ ಜಾಗೃತರಾಗಬೇಕು” ಎಂದು ಅರಣ್ಯ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ ಕೆ.ಡಿ.ನಾಯ್ಕ್​ ಮನವಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು.

    ಪದೇ ಪದೆ ಇಂತಹ ಘಟನೆಗಳು ಮರುಕಳಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಕಡಲ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಸಾವಿನ ಅನುಮಾನ ಹುಟ್ಟುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಕಡಲ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ, ಮೀನುಗಾರಿಕೆ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳು, ಹವಾಮಾನ ವೈಪರೀತ್ಯಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಇತರ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಕಾರಣಗಳು ಈ ಸಾವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿರಬಹುದೇ ಎಂಬುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಜ್ಞರು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ನಡೆಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದು ಈ ಭಾಗದ ಮೀನುಗಾರರು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರ ಒತ್ತಾಯವಾಗಿದೆ.
