BENGALURU: Four months into the Karnataka cabinet, excise minister and senior Congress MLA HY Meti on Wednesday resigned after a sex tape allegedly involving him+ was released in public.
While it is claimed the tape is 30 minutes long, the clipping which was released to the regional Kannada television channels was of 30 seconds only. The clipping does not show the women with whom Meti is alleged to be involved, but shows the minister, with his trademark spectacles, indulging in a kind of sexual act.Excise Minister Shri HY Meti has resigned. I have recommended to Honble Governor to accept the resignation. I have also ordered a probe.
— CM of Karnataka (@CMofKarnataka) December 14, 2016As soon as the sex tape was released to regional Kannada television channels, Meti went to Krishna, the home office of chief minister Siddaramaiah, to submit his resignation.
Siddaramaiah accepted his resignation and forwarded the same to governor Vajubhai Vala to give his assent.
Later speaking to the media, Siddaramaiah said: “Meti submitted his resignation voluntarily on moral grounds and I have accepted it, after the CD was released. I have also ordered a CID inquiry into the entire episode to get to the truth of the incident, after the minister claimed that it was a conspiracy against him and that he was trapped in the act.”Siddaramaiah said there was no embarrassment to the government, and that Meti’s resignation was not sought for. When pointed out that this is the second incident involving his ministers, earlier primary and secondary education minister Tanveer Sait was caught watching sleaze pictures on camera, Siddaramaiah said: “Tanveer Sait was cleared of all charges by the CID. His was not a case parellel to this CD. Even this CD does not mean admission of guilt by Meti. It is only that he has submitted it on moral grounds.”
The sex scandal rocked the state earlier last week, after an RTI activist Rajashekar complained of death threats from the minister and his camp for saying he had a sex tape on him. The 71-year-old excise minister was defended by senior Congress ministers in the state, like higher education minister Basavaraj Rayareddi, citing Meti’s age and giving him the “benefit of the doubt”.

Scrapped Indian notes sail to Dubai to end up as furniture
Dubai, Dec 13 (IANS) After demonetisation, Indias invalid Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes are now on their way to Dubai and may end up in your living room as a piece of furniture or a photo frame, says a report in Gulf News.
About 30 to 40 per cent of the hardboard and fibreboard products made by recycling the scrapped notes are being exported through Dubai, P.K. Mayan Mohammad, whose firm in Kerela was chosen by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to recycle the demonetised currency notes, told the Dubai-based newspaper.
“We are exporting the fibreboards to various countries in Europe, Africa and also to Australia,” the paper quoted Mohammad, who was in Dubai, as saying.
The locally imported boards are used for making furniture such as wardrobes, shelves, drawer bottoms, photo frames and mirror frame backing and for making partitions.
Explaining to the newspaper how it all started, Mohammad said the RBI’s regional office in Thiruvananthapuram inquired about his firm’s capability to recycle shredded currency notes a couple of weeks before the government made the demonetisation announcement.
The RBI approached Mohammad on October 20. However, he said he had no idea a demonetisation move was afoot at that time.
“I thought they had decided to recycle the soiled notes instead of burning them. I, too, got to know about the demonetisation plan only when the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) announced it,” he was quoted by Gulf News as saying.
The company made use of the thermomechanical pulping method. “We are the only facility with this technology (in India). It uses high electrical energy, steam pressure and temperature,” he said.
The firm started using the pulp of the invalid notes as one of the raw materials that are mixed with wood pulp for making hardboard and fibreboard.
Once that became a success, the RBI asked the company to lift more truckloads of shredded notes.
“We have been picking up almost 60 tonnes of shredded notes a week,” Mohammad told the paper.
