  • Bengaluru: Formation of Namma Nada Okkoota Bengaluru Unit

  • Gangtok: Chitradurga Congress MLA K.C. Veerendra Puppy Taken into ED Custody in Money Laundering Case

    Gangtok, August 22, 2025: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) took Chitradurga Congress MLA K.C. Veerendra Puppy into custody from a hotel in Gangtok, Sikkim, on Thursday night, August 21, 2025, in connection with an ongoing investigation into a money laundering racket linked to online gaming and betting operations. The action was carried out under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), with a special ED team tracking Puppy, who represents the Chitradurga Assembly constituency, according to official sources.

    On Friday morning, August 22, 2025, the ED conducted coordinated raids at 30 locations across six states, including six premises in Chitradurga, ten in Bengaluru, three in Jodhpur, one in Hubballi, two in Mumbai, and eight in Goa. The searches targeted properties linked to Puppy, his brothers K.C. Nagaraja and K.C. Tippeswamy, and associates such as Kusuma Hanumantharayappa, Anil Gowda, and a hawala operator from Hubballi. The raids, including at Puppy’s residence near Veerabhadraswamy Temple in Challakere and an upscale apartment in Bengaluru’s Vasanth Nagar, resulted in the seizure of digital devices, financial records, documents, and one kilogram of gold.

    Preliminary findings indicate that Puppy and his associates operated illegal betting websites, including King567, Raja567, Puppy’s003, and Rathna Gaming, and held stakes in five Goa casinos: Puppy’s Casino Gold, Ocean Rivers Casino, Puppy’s Casino Pride, Ocean 7 Casino, and Big Daddy Casino. These platforms are alleged to have facilitated suspicious money transfers and financial irregularities.

    Pappy, who switched from JD(S) to Congress before the 2023 Assembly elections, previously faced scrutiny in 2016 when the Income Tax Department seized Rs 5.7 crore in new currency, 32 kilograms of gold, and Rs 90 lakh in old notes from his bathroom in Challakere.

    Bengaluru, August 22, 2025: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that renowned Kannada author and International Booker Prize 2025 winner Banu Mushtaq will inaugurate the prestigious Mysuru Dasara festival this year. Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, Siddaramaiah expressed pride in Mushtaq’s achievement, noting that her book Hridaya Deepa (Heart Lamp), translated by Deepa Bhasthi, earned her the coveted award, making her the first Kannada author to receive this honor.

    “Banu Mushtaq, a woman from Karnataka, winning the Booker Prize is a matter of great joy. She comes from a background of struggle, having worked with farmers’ movements, Kannada agitations, and progressive causes.   • Sasthan: Fisherman Dies as Boat Capsizes in Rough Seas

    Udupi, August 22, 2025 – A tragic incident occurred off the coast of Sasthan Koditale, near the Sita River estuary in Udupi, when a fishing boat capsized due to strong waves on Friday morning, August 22, 2025. The accident claimed the life of Sharath Kharvi, a 27-year-old fisherman, while his companions, Akshay Kharvi and Manjunath Kharvi, narrowly escaped and swam to shore.

    The three fishermen had ventured into the sea for fishing when their boat overturned in the turbulent waters near the estuary. While Akshay and Manjunath managed to reach the shore, Sharath drowned in the mishap. The survivors are currently receiving medical treatment at Udupi District Hospital. The boat was lost to the sea, resulting in financial damages estimated to be in the lakhs of rupees.

    A case has been registered at Kota Police Station (UDR No. 45/2025, Section 194 BNSS) to investigate the circumstances of the incident.

  • Udupi: Vidushi Deeksha V Begins 216-Hour Bharatanatyam Marathon for Golden Book of World Records

    Udupi, August 22, 2025 – Vidushi Deeksha V, a young Bharatanatyam artist from Munkinjaddu, Brahmavar, has begun an ambitious 216-hour continuous dance marathon to etch her name in the Golden Book of World Records. The nine-day event, titled Navarasa Deeksha Vaibhavam, commenced on August 21, 2025, at 3:30 PM at the Postgraduate Auditorium of Dr. G. Shankar Women’s College, Ajjarkad, Udupi, and is set to conclude on August 30, 2025. The performance, supported by Ratna Sanjeeva Kalamandala, Manipal, follows the Marga Paddhati style, with Deeksha taking a 15-minute break every three hours as per the record attempt rules.

    The event was inaugurated by former MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat and dignitaries through a ceremonial lamp-lighting. Deeksha’s guru, Vidwan Sridhar Rao Bannaje, praised her dedication, stating, “My student Deeksha is striving to create a Golden Book of World Records, and she deserves everyone’s blessings. When she approached me, I advised her to complete her Vidwath exam and prepare thoroughly. She is also skilled in Yakshagana, Veena, Chende, Maddale, and painting. Her attempt follows a recent record by Remona Evette Pereira, who performed Bharatanatyam for 170 hours in Mangaluru. The Asian Head of the Golden Book of World Records will oversee the event to ensure compliance with guidelines, with video documentation capturing every moment of the performance.

  • Belthangady: Case Filed Against Girish Mattannanavar for Obstructing Police Duty and Threatening Defamation

    Mangaluru, August 22, 2025 – Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Arun K. has confirmed that a case has been filed against Girish Mattannanavar at Belthangady Police Station for obstructing police duties and issuing threats during an attempted arrest of Mahesh Shetty Timarodi. The action stems from a complaint related to derogatory remarks allegedly made by Timarodi against BJP National General Secretary B.L. Santosh.

    On August 21, 2025, officers from Brahmavar Police Station, including a Sub-Inspector and senior officials, visited Timarodi House in Ujire, Belthangady Taluk, to arrest Mahesh Shetty Timarodi in connection with a case registered at their station. During the operation, Girish Mattannanavar, Jayanth, and approximately 10 others formed an unlawful assembly, physically resisted the arrest, and threatened to spread defamatory content on social media against the officers, according to SP Arun.

    After Timarodi’s arrest, he refused to travel in the police vehicle, opting for his own car. During the transit, 10 to 15 vehicles followed the police convoy, causing further disruption. The case has been registered under Sections 132 (obstructing public servant), 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 263(a) (causing danger or obstruction), 190 (common intention), and 262 (resistance to lawful apprehension) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. The investigation is ongoing to address the violations and ensure accountability.
