  • Mangaluru: 55-Year-Old Fugitive Arrested in Puttur Rural Fraud Case After Decades on the Run

    Mangaluru, September 20, 2025 – Puttur Rural Police Station has achieved a rare breakthrough by arresting a 78-year-old man who had evaded capture for 55 years in a 1970 fraud case, marking one of the oldest pending cases in Dakshina Kannada district.

    The accused, Chandran from Malappuram district, Kerala, was wanted under Crime No. 32/1970 for fraud, with an LPC warrant (No. 2/1972) issued against him for failing to appear in court. He had gone into hiding since then.

    Following persistent search operations, police traced Chandran to Pullikal in Calicut, Kerala, and took him into custody. He was produced before the Puttur court.

    Police hailed the arrest as an “uncommon feat,” crediting technical assistance and detailed case records for the success. Senior officials commended the team for cracking such an aged case.

  • Mangaluru: Scooter Rider Killed in Pothole-Related Accident Near Kuloor

    Mangaluru, September 9, 2025: A tragic accident occurred near Kuloor Royal Oak in Mangaluru when a scooter rider, identified as Madhavi, an employee at A.J. Hospital, lost her life after her vehicle hit a pothole on the highway, causing her to be thrown onto the road. A fish lorry following closely behind ran over her, resulting in her death at the scene.

    Madhavi was riding her scooter from Kuloor towards A.J. Hospital for work when the vehicle hit a pothole, causing it to skid and topple. The impact threw her onto the road, where the lorry ran over her abdomen, leading to fatal injuries. Her body was subsequently sent to A.J. Hospital for post-mortem examination.

    Officers from the Mangaluru North Traffic Police visited the accident site for inspection and have seized both the fish lorry and the scooter involved in the incident. A case has been registered at the Mangaluru North Traffic Police Station, and further investigations are underway to ascertain additional details.

    The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by potholes on Mangaluru’s highways, raising concerns about road safety in the region.

  • Mangaluru: Six Arrested for Moral Policing Incident Involving College Student

    Mangaluru, August 14, 2025 – In a moral policing incident that took place on August 11, 2025, near the State Bank service bus stand in Mangaluru, Pandeshwar police arrested six individuals identified as Ganesh, Shreyas, Chintu, Chandan, Nagaraj, and Ramachandra. The accused allegedly harassed a pre-university college student and her male acquaintance, who is related to her friend, by blocking their path, questioning their relationship, verbally abusing them, and issuing life threats.

    The incident occurred as the student was returning from college and conversing with the male acquaintance after her friend had left by bus. A group of seven to eight men confronted the pair, targeting them due to the male acquaintance being from a different community. A police patrol vehicle arrived promptly, and the student reported the incident to the officers. With her family’s support, she filed a complaint, leading to the arrest of six suspects. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining individuals involved.

    The case has been registered at Pandeshwar Police Station, and investigations are ongoing to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice. This incident adds to concerns about recurring moral policing in the region, prompting calls for stricter measures to curb such acts.
