  • Yellapur: Three Dead, Several Injured in KSRTC Bus Crash on NH-66 Near Hittina Bail

    Yellapur, August 16, 2025 – A tragic accident occurred late on August 15, 2025, around 11 p.m., near Hittina Bail in Yellapur taluk, Uttara Kannada district, when a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus (KA-19-F-3470) traveling from Amminagad, Bagalkot, to Dharmasthala crashed into a stationary Kerala-registered lorry on National Highway-66. The collision resulted in the deaths of three passengers and severe injuries to several others.

    The deceased have been identified as Neelavva Yalagurdappa Haradolli (Guledagudda, Bagalkot district), Girijavva Ayyappa Budannavar (Jalihal, Badami taluk), and an unidentified man aged approximately 45. The injured, including Ramesh Chandappa Kittali, Chidananda Kittali, Mallappa Yamanappa Katti, Manjula Galappa Halabar, Mallikarjun Andala, Devaki Bellli, Sameera Begum, and Sharifa Begum, were admitted to Yellapur Government Hospital for treatment.

    Preliminary investigations suggest the lorry, parked without indicators or safety measures, contributed to the crash, alongside the bus driver’s high speed and negligence. The impact severely damaged one side of the bus. Yellapur police, led by CPI Ramesh Hanapur and PSI Yallaling Kunnuru, shifted the injured to the hospital and the deceased to the Yellapur mortuary. A case has been registered against the bus driver, Yamanappa Magi (Alamatti, Vijayapura district), and the lorry driver at Yellapur police station, with investigations ongoing to determine further details.

  • Yellapur: Bodies of Two Brothers Swept Away in Kavalagi Stream Recovered

    Yellapur, August 13, 2025 – The bodies of two brothers, Mohammed Rafik Ibrahim Sab Sayyad (27) and Mohammed Hanif Ibrahim Sab Sayyad (25), from Madanasara village, who went missing after being swept away by the strong currents of Kavalagi stream while returning from fishing in the Bedti River, have been recovered. The incident occurred on August 10, 2025, when the brothers, part of a group of eight, were caught in a sudden surge of water while crossing the stream.

    Local residents, police, and fire brigade personnel immediately launched a search operation. On August 11, Mohammed Rafik’s body was found, followed by Mohammed Hanif’s body on August 13, approximately 1 km from the incident site. The police retrieved the bodies and initiated legal procedures. The tragedy has left the family and local community in deep sorrow.

    Yallapur, August 10, 2025 – In a tragic incident on Sunday, two youths from the same family in Madanasara village, Yallapur taluk, went missing after being swept away by strong currents in Kavalagi stream while returning from a fishing trip.

    The missing individuals have been identified as Mahmad Rafeek Saab Saiyad (27) and Mahmad Haneef Saab Saiyad (25), both residents of Madanasara village. According to reports, a group of eight people had crossed Kavalagi stream to fish at Bedthi stream on Sunday morning. Around 5:30 PM, while returning and crossing Kavalagi stream, a sudden surge in water flow swept the two men away.

    A case has been registered at the Yallapur police station. Police, along with fire brigade personnel, have visited the site and initiated a search operation for the missing youths. The incident has raised concerns about safety near streams during unpredictable water flow conditions, and authorities are continuing their efforts to locate the men.
