  • ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಗುಂಪು ಹತ್ಯೆ: ಪಾಕ್-ಪರ ಘೋಷಣೆ ಆರೋಪದ ತನಿಖೆ ಜಾರಿ, ಕಠಿಣ ಕ್ರಮದ ಭರವಸೆ

    ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಕೇರಳದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಹೊರವಲಯದ ಕುಡುಪು ಬಳಿ ಭಾನುವಾರ ಗುಂಪೊಂದು ಹತ್ಯೆಗೈದ ಘಟನೆ ನಡೆದಿದೆ. ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಪಂದ್ಯಾವಳಿಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಆರೋಪಿತ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನ-ಪರ ಘೋಷಣೆಯಿಂದ ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡ ಗುಂಪು ಈ ಕೃತ್ಯ ಎಸಗಿರುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯಿದೆ. ಈ ಘಟನೆ ಆತಂಕಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಇದುವರೆಗೆ 20 ಜನರನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಗೃಹ ಸಚಿವರು ಮತ್ತು ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಉಸ್ತುವಾರಿ ಸಚಿವರು ಕಠಿಣ ಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಮೃತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಕೇರಳದ ಮಾನಂದವಾಡಿ ಬಳಿಯ ಉಲ್ಲಪ್ಪಳ್ಳಿಯ 35 ರಿಂದ 40 ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ಎಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವರ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಕರು ಶವವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಪೊಲೀಸರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಮಂಜೂರು ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಠಾಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುಮಾನಾಸ್ಪದ ಸಾವು ಎಂದು ದಾಖಲಾದ ಪ್ರಕರಣವನ್ನು, ಶವಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ ವರದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲ್ಲೆಯ ಗಾಯಗಳು ದೃಢಪಟ್ಟ ಬಳಿಕ ಕೊಲೆ ಪ್ರಕರಣವಾಗಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

    ಕೇರಳದ ವಯನಾಡ್ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಪುಲ್ಪಳ್ಳಿ ನಿವಾಸಿ ಕುಂಞಾಯಿ ಎಂಬವರ ಪುತ್ರ ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ಕೊಲೆಯಾದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ.

    ಗೃಹ ಸಚಿವ ಜಿ. ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರ ಅವರು ಬುಧವಾರ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾ, “ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ 35 ರಿಂದ 40 ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ಗುಂಪು ಹತ್ಯೆಗೈದಿದೆ. ವಿಚಾರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಆರೋಪಿಗಳು ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ‘ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನ್ ಜಿಂದಾಬಾದ್’ ಎಂದು ಕೂಗಿದ್ದ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಇದು ಕೇವಲ ಆರೋಪಿಗಳ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಾಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಅಥವಾ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳಿಂದ ದೃಢೀಕರಣ ದೊರೆತಿಲ್ಲ. ತನಿಖೆ ಮುಂದುವರಿದಿದೆ,” ಎಂದರು.

    ಅವರು, ದಾಖಲೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಮೃತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಗುರುತನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಖಚಿತಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. “ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕೋನಗಳಿಂದ ತನಿಖೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಪೊಲೀಸರಿಂದ ಯಾವುದೇ ವೈಫಲ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆಯೇ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನೂ ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು,” ಎಂದು ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.

    20 ಜನರನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, 30 ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನರನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರ ದೃಢಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ಮುಖ್ಯ ಆರೋಪಿ ಸಚಿನ್ ಎಂ ಬಿಳಿಯಾಡಿ ಎಂಬ ಆಟೋ ಚಾಲಕನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಇತರ ಬಂಧಿತರಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವದಾಸ್, ಸಾಯಿದೀಪ್, ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಜುನಾಥ್ ಸೇರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮಾಜಿ ಕಾರ್ಪೊರೇಟರ್‌ನ ಪತಿಯನ್ನೂ ವಿಚಾರಣೆಗೊಳಪಡಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

    ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ಪಂದ್ಯಾವಳಿಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸಚಿನ್ ನಡುವೆ ವಾಗ್ವಾದ ನಡೆದಿದೆ. ಈ ವೇಳೆ ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ಘೋಷಣೆ ಕೂಗಿದ್ದ ಎಂದು ಆರೋಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಆತನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೋಲಿನಿಂದ ಹಲ್ಲೆ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಓಡಿಹೋಗಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಿದಾಗ ಗುಂಪು ಆತನನ್ನು ಬೆನ್ನಟ್ಟಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಹಲ್ಲೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ತನಿಖೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಸುಮಾರು 30 ಜನರು ಈ ಹಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಭಾರತೀಯ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಸಂಹಿತೆ (BNS) ಸೆಕ್ಷನ್ 103(2) ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದು ಗುಂಪು ಹತ್ಯೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ವಿಶೇಷ ವಿಭಾಗವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಜೀವಾವಧಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆ ಅಥವಾ ಮರಣದಂಡನೆಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿದೆ.

    ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಉಸ್ತುವಾರಿ ಸಚಿವ ದಿನೇಶ್ ಗುಂಡೂರಾವ್ ಅವರು ಈ ಘಟನೆಯನ್ನು ಖಂಡಿಸಿ, ಶಾಂತಿ ಭಂಗಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುವವರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಕಠಿಣ ಕ್ರಮದ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. “ನಮ್ಮ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಸಾಮುದಾಯಿಕ ಅಶಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುವ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನು ಸಹಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಯುವಕ ಅಶ್ರಫ್‌ನ ಕೊಲೆಯು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಶಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಭಂಗಗೊಳಿಸಲು ದುರುದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಕೃತ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ,” ಎಂದರು.

    ಕೆಲವು ಶಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಇಂತಹ ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಸಾಮುದಾಯಿಕ ಅಶಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಉಂಟುಮಾಡಲು ಮತ್ತು ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಇಮೇಜ್‌ಗೆ ಧಕ್ಕೆ ತರುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. “ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡವು ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಸರಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆ ಚಿತ್ರಣವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

    ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಪೊಲೀಸರ ತ್ವರಿತ ಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಸಚಿವರು ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂದಿನ ಅಶಾಂತಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಅವಕಾಶ ನೀಡದಂತೆ ಖಚಿತಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಸೂಚಿಸಿದರು. “ನಾವು ಬಸವಣ್ಣನವರ ‘ಕರುಣೆಯೇ ದೊ ಡ್ಡ ಧರ್ಮ’ ಎಂಬ ಆದರ್ಶಕ್ಕೆ ಬದ್ಧರಾಗಿದ್ದೇವೆ,” ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

    ಮಂಗಳೂರು, ಏ.30: ನಗರದ ಹೊರವಲಯ ಕುಡುಪು ಸಮೀಪ ಏ.27ರಂದು ದುಷ್ಕರ್ಮಿಗಳ ಗುಂಪೊಂದು ಥಳಿಸಿ ಹತ್ಯೆಗೈದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಗುರುತುಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಕೇರಳದ ವಯನಾಡಿನಿಂದ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ ಆತನ ಮನೆಮಂದಿ ಮೃತದೇಹವನ್ನು ಇಂದು ಬೆಳಗ್ಗಿನ ಜಾವ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಈ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದ ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ಕುಟುಂಬಸ್ಥರು ಮಂಗಳವಾರ ತಡರಾತ್ರಿ 12:30ರ ಸುಮಾರಿಗೆ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ಅವರ ಸಹೋದರ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದ ಮೂವರು ವೆನ್ಲಾಕ್ ಶವಾಗಾರದಲ್ಲಿರಿಸಿದ್ದ ಮೃತದೇಹ ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ಅವರದ್ದೆಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾನೂನು ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಮೃತದೇಹವನ್ನು ಕುಟುಂಬಸ್ಥರಿಗೆ ಹಸ್ತಾಂತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

    ಬಳಿಕ ಮೃತದೇಹವನ್ನು ಬಂದರ್ ನ ಝೀನತ್ ಭಕ್ಷ್ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿಗೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯಲಾಯಿತು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತಿಮ ವಿಧಿವಿಧಾನಗಳನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿ ಮಯ್ಯಿತ್ ನಮಾಝ್ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ ಬಳಿಕ ಮುಂಜಾನೆ 4:30ರ ಸುಮಾರಿಗೆ ಮೃತದೇಹವನ್ನು ಆಂಬುಲೆನ್ಸ್ ಮೂಲಕ ವಯನಾಡಿಗೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯಲಾಯಿತು.

    ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭ ಮಾಜಿ ಮೇಯರ್ ಕೆ.ಅಶ್ರಫ್, ಸುಹೈಲ್ ಕಂದಕ್, ಕೆ.ಕೆ.ಶಾಹುಲ್ ಹಮೀದ್, ಬಿ.ಕೆ.ಇಮ್ತಿಯಾಝ್, ಸಂತೋಷ್ ಬಜಾಲ್, ಜಲೀಲ್ ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರ, ರಿಯಾಝ್ ಕಡಂಬು ಮತ್ತಿತರರು ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು. ಮೂಲತಃ ಮಲಪ್ಪುರಂ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯವರಾದ ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಕೆಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ವಯನಾಡ್ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗೆ ಬಂದು ನೆಲೆಸಿದೆ. ತಂದೆ, ಇಬ್ಬರು ಸಹೋದರರು ಮತ್ತು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಸಹೋದರಿಯರನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಷ್ಟ ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗೆ ಒಳಗಾಗಿದ್ದರೆನ್ನಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅಶ್ರಫ್ ಮನೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಇದೇ ರೀತಿ ಆಗಾಗ್ಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಎಂದು ಮನೆ ಮಂದಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

  • ಮಂಗಳೂರು: 500 ಕ್ವಿಂಟಾಲ್ ಅಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ್ದ ಅಕ್ಕಿ ಜಪ್ತಿ

    ಮಂಗಳೂರು: ಆಹಾರ ಮತ್ತು ನಾಗರಿಕ ಸರಬರಾಜು ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ನಗರದ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಹಿಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಗೋದಾಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸುಮಾರು 500 ಕ್ವಿಂಟಾಲ್ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯನ್ನು ಜಪ್ತಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

    ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರಿಂದ ಬಂದ ದೂರುಗಳ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ, ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಉಪ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕಿ ಅನಿತಾ ವಿ. ಮದ್ಲೂರ್ ಅವರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಳಿ ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು.

    “ಅನುಪಮಾ ಎಂಟರ್‌ಪ್ರೈಸಸ್‌ಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಗೋದಾಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಸ್ಮತಿ, ಸೋನಾ ಮಸೂರಿ, ಜೀರಾ ರೈಸ್, ಮತ್ತು ಕುಸುಗು ಅಕ್ಕಿಯನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಂತೆ ವಿವಿಧ ಬ್ರಾಂಡ್‌ಗಳ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯ ಚೀಲಗಳಿದ್ದವು. ಇದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ, ಯಾವುದೇ ಬ್ರಾಂಡಿಂಗ್ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಬಿಳಿ ಚೀಲಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಇದು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ವಿತರಣಾ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗೆ (ಪಿಡಿಎಸ್) ಸೇರಿದ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯಾಗಿರಬಹುದು ಎಂಬ ಅನುಮಾನವನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕಿದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯ ಸ್ಟಾಕ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ಜಪ್ತಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅಗತ್ಯ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ಕಾಯ್ದೆಯಡಿ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ,” ಎಂದು ಅನಿತಾ ವಿ. ಮದ್ಲೂರ್ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

    “ಉತ್ತರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಿಂದ ಅನ್ನ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯನ್ನು ಅಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಸಾಗಿಸಿ, ಹೊಳಪು ಮಾಡಿ, ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮರುಬ್ರಾಂಡಿಂಗ್ ಮಾಡಿ ಮಾರಾಟ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ದೂರುಗಳೂ ಇವೆ. ಜಪ್ತಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯ ಮಾದರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಯೋಗಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಗೋದಾಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಷ್ಟು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಲು ಅಗತ್ಯವಾದ ಅನುಮತಿಗಳಿದ್ದವಿಯೇ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನೂ ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು,” ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

  • Mangaluru: Brutal Mob Lynching in Kudupu – 30-Person Mob Involved in Crime | Victim’s Identity Remains a Mystery | 15 Arrested

    Mangaluru: Official details have emerged regarding the case of an unidentified body found in Kudupu, on the outskirts of Mangaluru, on Sunday. It has been revealed that a group of youths playing cricket brutally assaulted and killed a migrant worker.

    According to reports, the incident began when the victim arrived at the location where a cricket match was underway on Sunday. A verbal altercation reportedly took place between the victim and an individual named Sachin, who was playing cricket. During this confrontation, Sachin allegedly attacked the victim, and others present at the scene joined in, escalating the assault, as stated by the Police Commissioner.

    Approximately 30 individuals were involved in the incident, and so far, 15 have been arrested, according to the police.

    The arrested individuals have been identified as Sachin T (26), Devadas (50), Manjunath (32), Saideep (29), Nitesh Kumar alias Santosh (33), Deekshit Kumar (32), Sandeep (23), Vivian Alvares (41), Shridatta (32), Rahul (23), Pradeep Kumar (35), Manish Shetty (21), Dhanush (31), Deekshit (27), and Kishore Kumar (37). It has also come to light that the husband of a former BJP corporator was involved in the incident, and further investigation into this matter is underway, as confirmed by the Police Commissioner.

    On April 27, around 5:30 PM, an unidentified body was discovered near the Bhatra Kallurti Daivasthana in Kudupu. Mangaluru Rural Police visited the site and conducted an inspection. As there were no visible severe injuries on the body, it was decided to perform a post-mortem examination.

    Findings from the Investigation

    According to the police investigation, a cricket tournament was taking place at a ground near Bhatra Kallurti Daivasthana around 3:00 PM on April 27. During this time, a group of individuals attacked an unidentified person with their hands and sticks. The victim was also kicked and trampled. Despite attempts by some to intervene, the assault continued, resulting in the victim’s death.

    What Does the Medical Report Say?

    The preliminary post-mortem report indicates that the victim suffered severe blows to the back, leading to internal bleeding and death due to shock. The lack of timely medical treatment also contributed to the fatality, as per the report.

    15 Arrested, Investigation Ongoing

    Based on a complaint filed by an individual named Deepak Kumar, the Mangaluru Rural Police have registered a case against 19 named individuals and others under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Currently, 15 suspects have been arrested, and the search for other individuals involved in the crime continues, according to the police. It is estimated that over 30 people participated in this heinous act.

  • Candlelight vigil on April 16 against rape culture, citizens urged to join

    Mangalore: A candlelight vigil will be organised at DC’s office here on Monday April 16 at 6.30 pm, condemning the incidents of rape and other crimes against women, particularly the Kathua and Unnao cases.

    Social activists, students, professionals and other concerned citizens will be part of the vigil.
    A meeting on Saturday April 14 to discuss the protest. It was decided that those participating in the the vigil will not target any political party or individual nor resort to sloganeering.
    Mother of Sowjanya, who was raped and murdered in Beltangady in 2012, will also join the protest.
    The organizers stressed that the protest will be against rape culture and against rapists and not any one or two incidents.
    Giving details, social activist Vidya Dinker said, “People like us who love each other and uphold humanity should raise our voice against such brutalities that happened in Kathua. We should come together and condemn the incident. By doing this, we should give a signal to the culprits that we will not sit mum on the heinous crime.
    “The Kathua victim is our daughter. She was raped and killed by inhuman mentalities. To escape from punishment they got help from those in power. Tomorrow they may come to our areas and kill our daughters too. So we need to wake up and protest. I appeal to all who love humanity to join the candlelight vigil,” she said.

  • PU result on April 30, SSLC on May 7

    Bengaluru, Apr 15: The second pre university and SSLC result of this year will be announced on April 30 and May 7 respectively.

    Results would be made available in respective schools and colleges on the next day of the result.

    PU examination had begun on March 1 and ended on March 17. It is gathered that evaluation of answer sheets has been almost finished. SSLC examination was held between March 23 and April 6.

  • Passenger killed, 3 injured as tree falls on running train

    A passenger was killed and three others injured when a tree fall on the running train at Balli bridge three hundred meters away from the Balli station.

    This incident took place on Tuesday evening at 5.30 pm. The tree apparently had crashed on the train due to the cyclonic winds lashing South Goa. 

    According to the police, a huge tree came down on the running Mangalore Express travelling to Mumbai after it crossed Balli station. A passenger standing at the door of a coach fell off the running train due to the impact of tree fall and died on the spot.

    Three other passengers, a man and two women, suffered injuries after they were hit by the branches from the falling tree. Injured passengers were taken to Hospicio Hospital at Margao for treatment.

    Meanwhile, the sudden cyclonic winds on Tuesday evening uprooted many trees in Salcete and Quepem areas. 

    Besides, the train incident, a huge tree came down at Barcem on NH 17 and blocked the traffic for some time. Another huge tree crashed on the house of one Damu Naik at Milleawado in Cuncolim; major portion of the house got damaged in the incident. 

  • Election posters released in Udupi

    Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis on Monday released posters and hoarding designs in Udupi depicting local culture and diversity to attract voters to the polling booths on May 12.

    Some of them have slogans in Kundapur Kannada. One of them read: “Aentha kelsidru vot hakudond marukaga” (However engaged, one should not forget to vote). Another in Tulu read: “Vot paadara undu. Bega poyiye” (Let us march fast to vote).

    The Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation Committee of Udupi has brought out 15 such posters.

    Meanwhile, speaking at an awareness programme on the functioning of EVMs and VVPATs at Udupi Bar Council, the Deputy Commissioner said that all 1,400 machines have been tested in the presence of representatives of political parties. She said that the representatives would be allowed to conduct mock polling to test the machines that cannot be hacked.

  • Five linked to Sanatan Sanstha are key suspects in Gauri Lankesh’s murder

    The five missing persons are: Praveen Limkar, 34, from Kolhapur; Jayaprakash alias Anna, 45, from Mangalore; Sarang Akolkar, 38, from Pune; Rudra Patil, 37, from Sangli and Vinay Pawar, 32, from Satara.
    Bengaluru (TheIndianExpress): Five persons linked to the right-wing Sanatan Sanstha organisation, including four with Interpol red-corner notices against their names for their alleged involvement in a bomb blast in Madgaon in Goa in 2009, have emerged as key suspects in the murder of journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh outside her home in Bengaluru on September 5.
    The five missing persons are: Praveen Limkar, 34, from Kolhapur; Jayaprakash alias Anna, 45, from Mangalore; Sarang Akolkar, 38, from Pune; Rudra Patil, 37, from Sangli and Vinay Pawar, 32, from Satara.
    They are among the key suspects being investigated by a Special Investigation Team of the Karnataka police as part of its probe into the murder of Lankesh.
    The names of Rudra Patil, Sarang Akolkar and Vinay Pawar had earlier emerged in the CBI investigation into the August 20, 2013 murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, 69, at Kolhapur in Maharashtra; in the Maharashtra SIT’s probe into the February 16, 2015 shooting of leftist thinker and rationalist Govind Pansare, 81 in Pune; and in the probe into the August 30, 2015 murder of Kannada scholar and researcher M M Kalburgi, 77, in Dharwad, Karnataka. Hundreds from Lankesh’s home state march in capital for slain journalist.
    Limkar, Anna, Akolkar and Patil are also suspected to have played a major role in the October 19, 2009 bomb blast in Madgaon where two Sanatan Sanstha men were killed while transporting an IED that was to be planted at a Diwali program in Madgaon. The National Investigation Agency has listed these four men linked to the Sanstha among its most wanted suspects and a red-corner notice has been issued against their names by the Interpol.
    Sources familiar with the investigation into the four murders of rationalists and activists said that the cracking of the Gauri Lankesh murder case hinges on the ability of the Karnataka SIT to track down the five missing Sanstha men. Gauri Lankesh to posthumously get Anna Politkovskaya Award.
    An advocate of the Sanatan Sanstha Sanjay Punalekar, at a recent press conference, claimed that some of its members may be absconding from the law because they were afraid of being wrongly accused in cases.
    As first reported by The Indian Express, a forensic analysis of four empty cartridges and the four bullets fired to kill Lankesh had concluded that markings on the bullets and cartridges bear a close resemblance to those found on bullets and cartridges fired to kill Kalburgi. This confirmed preliminary findings suggesting that Lankesh and scholar Kalburgi were probably shot with the same 7.65-mm pistol. The ballistic finding suggests that one common group is behind the two killings, say sources.
    Findings from a comparison of the ballistic evidence from the Lankesh and Kalburgi cases adds to existing forensic evidence from the shooting of Pansare where the same 7.65-mm countrymade gun used in the Kalburgi murder was found to have been used.
    Govind Pansare and his wife Uma Pansare were shot with five bullets from two 7.65-mm country made guns. A comparison of the ballistic evidence found in the Pansare case with that of evidence in the shooting of Dabholkar revealed that a second gun used to shoot the Pansares was the one that was used to kill Dabholkar.
    Sources in the Karnataka SIT probing the Lankesh case said “good progress” has been achieved in the probe. Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy also said this week that the SIT has conclusive evidence regarding the alleged perpetrators of Lankesh’s murder.
